A Cold And Drizzly Day At The Ballpark
MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/11/26)---Concordia lost a pair of games against St. Benedict in a doubleheader that was played in a steady drizzle and 40-degree temperatures at Moorhead High School.
The Cobbers stumbled in the fifth inning of the opener and lost 7-1 and then had their 7th-inning rally get negated in extra innings and dropped a 10-8 decision in Game 2.
Kailee Falconer, Megan Guggisberg and Reese Hauck had home runs for the Cobbers who had their overall record fall to 8-10. CC is now 0-4 in MIAC play.
St. Benedict wins for the fourth straight time and is now 15-9 in all games and 5-1 in conference play.
Game 1: Concordia 1, St. Benedict 7
St. Benedict struck first in Game 1 as they scored an unearned run in the opening inning. They added to the lead in the third on a solo home run to go ahead 2–0.
Concordia responded in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the deficit in half. Megan Guggisberg opened the frame with a single, and after advancing to third, scored on an RBI single by Olivia Olberding to make it a 2–1 game.
The Bennies broke things open in the fifth inning with a 4‑run outburst. St. Benedict added an unearned run in the seventh to finalize the scoring.
Megan Guggisberg led the Cobbers at the plate, going 2‑for‑3 with a run scored, while Olberding finished 2‑for‑3 with Concordia's lone RBI. Falconer and Charlotte Bertram also collected hits as Concordia finished with six total.
In the circle, Mallory Leitner started for the Cobbers and was charged with the loss after pitching 4.1 innings. She was relieved by Lauren Kohlgraf, who allowed just one unearned run over the final 2.2 innings while striking out two and walking three.
Concordia's defense turned in several clean innings late, holding St. Benedict scoreless in the sixth and kept putting pressure on offense in the seventh, but the early run support proved to be the difference.
Game 2: Concordia 8, St. Benedict 10 (8 innings)
Concordia battled and battled in Game 2 and nearly came up with the win but the Bennies were able to plate five runs in the first extra inning and claimed the 10-8 win.
Neither team was able to score in the first two frames but then CSB posted a 2-run third inning to take the lead. The Cobbers answered with a single run in the bottom of the frame when Falconer launched a solo home run to cut St. Benedict's early 2–0 lead in half.
The long ball was the second of the season for Falconer and fourth of her career.
Concordia took its first lead of the afternoon an inning later behind another long ball. Megan Guggisberg tied the game with a solo home run before Reese Hauck followed with a two-run homer to give the Cobbers a 4–3 advantage.
For Guggisberg, it was her second dinger of the season and Hauck went yard for the third time in 2026.
St. Benedict responded to even the score in the fifth, setting up a back-and-forth middle portion of the game. Concordia briefly reclaimed momentum in the bottom of the seventh when an error allowed a run to score, knotting the game at 5–5.
The decisive stretch came in the top of the eighth, as Saint Benedict plated five runs, highlighted by a pair of home runs, to open up a 10–5 lead.
Concordia didn't go quietly in the bottom half of the inning. Jocelyn Maki singled home a run, and Kate Gulbranson delivered a two-run base hit up the middle to bring the Cobbers within two at 10–8. The rally stalled with the tying runs on base, ending the comeback attempt.
Offensively, Concordia collected eight hits which included a season-high three home runs.
Gulbranson finished with two RBIs, while Maki added an RBI single. Falconer, Guggisberg, Hauck, and Olberding all crossed the plate.
Kegen Coulson got the start in the finale and worked 7.2 innings. Kohlgraf finished off the second game as she recorded the final out.
Concordia will have a short rest before they return to action when they host No.3ranked St. Mary's on Sunday, Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. at Moorhead High School.
