Offense Posts Highlight Numbers In Game 2 Against #4 St. Mary's

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/12/26)---The Concordia offense started slow but nearly pulled off a huge upset in Game 2 against No.4-ranked St. Mary's. The Cobbers were blanked 11-0 in the opener and used a 3-run laser homer from Megan Guggisberg to score four times in Game 2 but were edged 7-4.

The four runs scored in the second game are the most allowed by the nationally-ranked Cardinals in MIAC play and second most in any game this season.

The Cobbers also came up with nine hits in Game 2 which are also the most allowed by St. Mary's against a conference opponent and second most in all games.

The top three batters in the Cobber order all had multiple-hit games in the finale. Megan Guggisberg went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while leadoff hitter Kailee Falconer was 3-for-4 and Morgan Guggisberg went 2-for-3.

Game 1: Concordia 0, #4 St. Mary's 11 (5 innings)
Concordia was limited to just three baserunners in the first game. Reese Hauck, Kate Gulbranson, and Jocelyn Maki all drew free passes, but CC was unable to generate a hit against the league's top pitching staff. Saint Mary's combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out six while allowing three walks.

The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead, scoring once in the first inning before putting the game out of reach with a seven-run second inning. The visitors added three more runs in the fourth to push the margin to 11–0.

Kegen Coulson got the start for the Cobbers and pitched the first 1.1 innings of the game. Lauren Kohlgraf provided relief, pitching the final 3.2 innings and giving up three runs while walking four.

Concordia recorded 15 outs in the field, with Maki handling nine chances at first base.

Game 2: Concordia 4, #4 St. Mary's 7
All the drama in Game 2 took place in the late innings. CC put together a late charge but was unable to overcome an early deficit.

The Cobbers trailed 4–0 entering the sixth inning before rallying with the hammered 3-run home run from Megan Guggisberg, pulling within one and bringing new life into the dugout. The long ball by Guggisberg was only the third given up by the SMU pitching staff all season. 

The Cardinals responded by scoring in four different innings, capitalizing on small-ball execution and timely hitting. Concordia starter Mallory Leitner battled through 6.1 innings and kept the game within reach.

The Cobbers' offense came alive in the late innings. In addition to Guggisberg's three-run blast in the sixth, Falconer led Concordia with a 3-for-4 day, scoring twice and doubling in the seventh. Concordia added another run in the final inning when Morgan Guggisberg singled home Falconer.

Concordia will play the next four games on the road. They start the 4-game road trip when they play at Macalester on Thursday, Apr. 16 at 4:30 p.m.
