Maki Leads Multiple Senior Moments In Season-Ending Sweep
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (5/02/26)---Senior Jocelyn Maki made the final games of her college career memorable as she led Concordia to a sweep over Augsburg in the final games of the 2026 season.
Maki hit a grand slam in the first game and helped the Cobbers post a 12-2 win in five innings. She capped her career by going 2-for-4 with another home run in CC's 7-2 victory in Game 2.
The sweep is the first of the year in conference play for Concordia. The Cobbers close out the year by winning three of their last five and finish at 13-25 in all games and 5-17 in MIAC play. The Auggies close out their season with a 7-30 overall mark. They were 2-19 against league opponents.
Concordia never trailed in either game as they combined to score 19 runs and record hits on the day.
Maki finished the two games by going 3-for-6 with seven RBI, two home runs and a grand slam. Not a bad memory to have in your final collegiate day of competition.
Fellow seniors Reese Hauck and Kate Gulbranson both had 3-hit games in the finale, while Kailee Falconer was 2-for-4 with three runs scored in the opener.
Kegen Coulson and Mallory Leitner both went the distance in the circle for Concordia. They both pitched a complete game and picked up the final two wins of the year.
Game 1: Concordia 12, Augsburg 2 (5 innings)
The Cobbers didn't let the bus ride from Moorhead effect their early-doubleheader start. Concordia opened the day by plating five runs in the first frame. That would be one of three big-run innings as they also put up crooked numbers in the fourth and fifth stanzas.
CC scored the five runs in the first inning on only one hit. Cate Kehoe came up with the base knock when she drove in two runs with a 2-out double to left center.
Concordia led 5-2 until the fourth when they scored three times on one hit and were helped by three Auggie errors.
The Cobbers closed out Game 1 with a 4-run fifth inning. All four runs came courtesy of Maki's first collegiate grand slam. She plated Megan Guggisberg, Lily Heskin and Falconer with a 2-out blast to left field.
Falconer had the only multiple-hit game for CC but the Cobbers' plate discipline led to eight free passes in the game.
Coulson pitched all 5.0 innings and gave up just three hits to earn her sixth win of the season.
Game 2: Concordia 7, Augsburg 2
The teams traded 2-run innings to start Game 2. Concordia scored a pair of runs in the first inning when Hauck had a 2-out double to right-center field which brought in the Guggisberg sisters.
The Cobbers broke the 2-2 deadlock with two runs in the fifth inning. Maki once again was the catalyst for the game-changing runs. She connected on her fourth homer of the year and brought home Morgan Guggisberg to make the score 4-2.
Concordia added a single run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to bring the final total to 7-2. Hauck and Gulbranson had run-scoring doubles in the seventh to bring home the final runs of the year.
Hauck and Gulbranson both finished their college careers by going 3-for-4. Hauch drove in three runs.
Morgan Guggisberg and Maki both had 2-hit games as the Cobbers posted their 10th game of the season with a double-digit hit total.
Concordia finished the year with a .293 batting average.
Leitner closed out her Cobber career with a complete-game victory. She went 7.0 innings, gave up the two runs and struck out three. She finished her CC career with 10 wins and 122 strikeouts.
