Stuck In The Middle

JAMESTOWN, Minn. (11/28/17)---Concordia outscored Jamestown 29-25 in the first and fourth quarters but allowed 50 points in the middle periods and lost 75-64 at Jamestown.

The Cobbers had a better shooting percentage from the field and outside the arc than the Jimmies but committed 25 turnovers and allowed 12 offensive rebounds and lost for the first time in three games.

Concordia (3-2) couldn't contain Jamestown (9-2) in the second and third periods as they were outscored 50-35. The Jimmies shot 45.4% from the floor in the middle 20 minutes of play and went on a 13-0 run in the middle of the second quarter which turned a three-point Cobbers lead at 22-19 into a 10-point deficit at 32-22.

The Jimmies had another big run in the third period when they outscored the Cobbers 16-4 over a span of 3:50 and stretched an eight-point margin into a comfortable 20-point lead.

The Cobbers shot 46.5% (20-for-43) for the game as compared to 38.8% (26-for-67). Both teams went cold from the outside with Concordia shooting 30.8% (4-for-13) from 3-point range as opposed to 23.1% (6-for-26) for Jamestown.

The Jimmies held a 35-33 edge in rebounding but 12 of the Jamestown boards came on the offensive end of the floor which turned in to a 13-2 advantage in second chance points.  Jamestown also held a 40-24 edge in points in the paint.

Turnovers proved to be another key in the game. Concordia had 25 miscues which was 11 more than Jamestown. The 25 CC turnovers turned into 15 Jimmie points.     

Concordia had three starters finish in double figures in scoring. Junior guard Grace Wolhowe had her most complete game if the season. She led the team in both points and rebounds as she scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards.

Kirstin Simmons and Lincoln Haiby both had 10 points for CC. Simmons was 6-for-7 from the free throw line while Haiby was 3-for-4 from the floor.

PROTECT THE BALL: Concordia has lost twice this season and in both games they committed more than 20 turnovers. The Cobbers have less than 20 miscues in three games and have won all three.    

REBOUND RANT: Concordia was outrebounded 35-33 against Jamestown which marked the first time all season that they have allowed more boards to an opponent. The 33 rebounds is also the first time this year they have not grabbed at least 40 boards. Concordia has now given up at least 10 offensive rebounds in four straight games.

GUIDING GRACE: Grace Wolhowe's 14 points against the Jimmies is a career high and marks the fourth straight game she has scored in double figures.
  
WHAT'S NEXT: Concordia will now open up MIAC play. The Cobbers will travel to St. Paul to take on Macalester on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. The Scots are 1-2 on the season and lost 70-46 at home against Northwestern on Monday.
