NORTHFIELD, Minn. (1/20/18)---Concordia had six players score at least seven points as they snapped their eight-game losing skid.
The Cobbers made 11 3-point field goals, held a 13-rebound advantage and never trailed in their 65-46 win at St. Olaf.
Concordia (6-11/3-7 MIAC) bolted to a 13-2 lead in the first 3:36 of the opening period. CC scored on its first six possessions of the game to set the tone and take an 11-point lead at 13-2.
The Cobbers would finish the first quarter with an 11-point lead at 17-6. The Oles would cut the margin to nine points at 20-11 in the first 1:09 of the second quarter before CC scored the next points and would then hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.
Junior guard Grace Wolhowe and sophomore forward Mira Ellefson would finish the game with 14 points each to lead the group of six Cobber players with at least seven points.
Cassidy Rahman, Kirstin Simmons, Aleya Parker and Lincoln Haiby were the other four members of Concordia to put up seven or more points. Rahman was 3-for-6 from outside the arc and recorded nine points. Simmons and Parker both added eight points while Haiby scored seven.
Wolhowe and Amber Lingen both had a team-high six rebounds. Lingen also came away with a game-high three assists. She also had two steals.
Both teams had 47 field goal attempts in the game. Concordia shot 48.9% (23-for-47) from the floor and 37.9% (11-for-29) from 3-point range. The Cobber defense held St. Olaf to 29.89% (14-for-47) shooting from the field and 30.8% (4-for-13) from outside the arc.
STAT ADVANTAGE: Besides the shooting percentage, Concordia held a 34-21 edge in rebounding and an 11-4 margin in 3-pointers made.
POWER OF 34%: Concordia held St. Olaf to under 34.0% shooting from the floor for the game. CC has held its opponent to under 34% in four games this year and the Cobbers are 4-0 in those contests.
WHAT'S NEXT: After playing three games last week the Cobbers will get a mini-rest before returning to play on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Bethel. The Cobbers lost to the Royals on Monday in a make-up game which was originally scheduled for Dec. 4. Bethel had their nine-game win streak come to an end on Wednesday at home against St. Thomas. The Royals are now 12-5 in all games and 7-3 in the MIAC.
