Kahler's Career-High Leads Cobbers In Conference Win
Concordia sprinted out of the gates in the first and third quarters and beat Augsburg 81-72 to record its first conference win of the season. Led by senior Jordyn Kahler’s career-high 20 points, the Cobbers outscored the Auggies 46-29 in the first and third quarters.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (12/14/24)---Concordia sprinted out of the gates in the first and third quarters and beat Augsburg 81-72 to record its first conference win of the season.
Led by senior Jordyn Kahler's career-high 20 points, the Cobbers outscored the Auggies 46-29 in the first and third quarters as they ended a 4-game losing streak.
Concordia (4-4, 1-2 MIAC) led 22-13 after the first 10 minutes of play before Augsburg made a comeback and took its first lead of the game at 34-32 of the second quarter. The teams would battle back-and forth for the final 3 minutes of the first half before a Maci Wheeldon layup gave CC a 41-39 lead at the halftime break.
The Cobbers never trailed in the second half as they went on a 7-0 run midway through the third period and never looked back. Concordia's biggest lead of the game came at the 5:52 mark of the fourth frame when a Molly Musland 3-pointer gave CC a 14-point margin at 72-58.
Kahler finished the game by going 7-for-9 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. The 20 points are a career high for Kahler and she upped her season scoring average to 10.0 points per game.
Senior guard Carlee Sieben had a solid second half as she scored nine points in the third quarter and finished with 16 for the game. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line and also added three assists.
Like Sieben, senior post player Makayla Anderson also stepped up in the second half. Anderson finished the game with 11 points and nine rebounds with seven points coming in the final 20 minutes of play.
Alexa Snesrud led CC in the first half with eight points. She finished with a 12 points to give the Cobbers four players with a double-digit scoring total. Snesrud was 10-for-11 from the free throw line.
The biggest statistical advantage for Concordia came at the free throw line. The Cobbers went 31-for-35 (88.6%) from the foul line as opposed to 18-for-24 (75.0%) for the Auggies. The game also featured 44 fouls.
The 35 made free throws are the most of the season and most since 2014 when CC went 33-for-38 against Hamline on Dec. 14.
The other shooting numbers were almost identical for the two teams. Concordia shot 41.5% (22-for-53) from the floor and 35.3% (6-for-17), while Augsburg made 41.1% (23-for-56) of their attempts from the field and 34.8% (8-for-23) of their chances from distance.
Concordia will have a 2-week break before returning to action on Sunday, Dec. 29 when they play Washington & Lee in the Transylvania Univ. Tournament in Lexington, Ky.
