LEXINGTON, Ky. (12/29/24)---Concordia got out to a fast start, posted a double-digit 3-point field goal total and rolled past No.13-ranked Washington & Lee (Va.) 73-62 in the first game of the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament hosted by Transylvania University (Ky.).
The Cobbers outscored the Generals 19-11 in the first quarter and held a 41-30 lead at the halftime break as they won their second straight game and upped their season record to 5-4 on the year.
Washington & Lee, who advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals last season, lost for only the second time all year and is now 7-2 in all games.
Concordia returned to their familiar theme of knocking down the long-range shot and using their speed to get to the free throw line. The Cobbers went 10-for-17 (58.8%) from outside the arc and made 11 more foul shots than Washington & Lee in posting the double-digit win.
The 10 made 3-pointers marked the first time in six games that CC has drained more than seven 3-pointers in the game and it is the third time this season that they have made at least 10 in a contest. Not surprisingly, Concordia is 3-0 when they record a double-digit 3-point total.
The Cobbers were also 13-for-20 from the free throw line as opposed to 2-for-11 from the Generals.
Senior guard Carlee Sieben led the offensive attack for Concordia. She found her outside shooting touch, went 4-for-6 from distance and finished with a season-high 25 points. She was also 7-for-16 from the floor and 7-for-9 from the free throw line.
Makayla Anderson was two rebounds shy of a double-double. She scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Anderson also added two steals and two assists.
Senior post player Greta Tollefson scored a season-high nine points and grabbed five boards.
With the win, Concordia advances to the championship game of the Gratz Park Private Wealth Holiday Tournament where they will face Case Western Reserve (Ohio) on Monday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m.
