MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/25/25)---Concordia could never find its shooting touch against No.8-ranked Gustavus and lost 56-42 in a battle of two of the top three teams in the MIAC.
Unfortunately for the Cobbers they finished the Top 5 showdown by posting their lowest field goal percentage and 3-point percentage marks of the season. The 42 points were also the fewest they've scored in a game this year.
Concordia wound up shooting 26.5% (13-for-49) from the floor and 16.7% (3-for-18) from outside the arc for the 40 minutes of play.
The cold-shooting touch led to the Cobbers' first loss in the last six games. CC is now 11-6 in all games and 6-4 in the MIAC. The loss drops Concordia into a tie for fourth place in the league standings.
The first half between the Cobbers and Gusties was more of an offensive contest than the second 20 minutes of play. The two teams combined for 56 points as Gustavus grabbed a 31-25 lead at the halftime break. The final half saw the teams combining for only 42 points and going 14-for-49 (28.5%) from the floor and 1-for-17 (5.8%) from 3-point range. The Gusties didn't make a 3-pointer in the second half as they went 0-for-10 while the Cobbers were 1-for-7.
Concordia was never able to take a lead after the first quarter. CC outscored the Gusties 11-8 in the final 10 minutes of play but could never put together a big point streak to cut into the lead.
Senior forward Makayla Anderson led Concordia with 13 points and 12 rebounds. It was her fifth double-double in the last six games. Anderson leads the team in rebounding this year. She is averaging 8.5 boards per game and has 702 rebounds for her career. She became the seventh player in program history to score over 1,000 points and record at least 700 rebounds.
Carlee Sieben made all three of the Cobbers' 3-point field goals and finished with nine points. She leads CC in scoring with a 16.2 points per game average. She has made 172 3-point baskets in her career which is third on the school's all-time list.
Concordia will look to start a new win streak when they play at St. Catherine on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.
