First-Quarter Stretch Costs Cobbers
Concordia outscored St. Catherine 31-27 in the second half but couldn’t overcome a 14-point halftime deficit and lost 63-53 to the Wildcats. The Cobbers scored 10 of the first 13 points of the game, but St. Catherine responded by scoring 15 consecutive points to take a 20-12 lead into the second period of play.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/29/25)---Concordia outscored St. Catherine 31-27 in the second half but couldn't overcome a 14-point halftime deficit and lost 63-53 to the Wildcats.
The Cobbers scored 10 of the first 13 points in the MIAC matchup but St. Catherine responded by scoring 15 consecutive points and 17 of the final 19 in the first quarter to take a 20-12 lead into the second period of play.
The loss is the second straight for Concordia who falls to 11-7 overall and 6-5 in the MIAC. CC is tied for sixth place in the league standings. St. Catherine ups their overall nark to 9-9 and they are now 4-7 in conference play.
The Cobbers could never find their outside shooting touch and finished the game by making 18.2% (4-for-22) of their attempts from outside the arc. CC shot 33.9% (20-for-59) from the floor and 81.8% (9-for-11) from the free throw line.
The Wildcats were minimally better from the outside, shooting 19.0% (4-for-21) from 3-point range. They made 40.0% (24-for-60) of their shots from the field and were 11-for-15 (73.3%) from the foul line.
St. Catherine held a 37-28 advantage in rebounds and also outscored the Cobbers 38-28 in points in the paint.
The senior duo of Carlee Sieben and Makayla Anderson scored 36 of the team's 53 points. Sieben was 3-for-7 from distance and finished with 22 points. It is her fourth 20-point game of the year. Sieben now has 989 career points for Concordia and needs 11 more to become the 30th player in program history to reach the 1000-point milestone.
Anderson finished with 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Concordia will host Hamline on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m.
