Cobbers Outkick Saints Down The Stretch
Concordia outscored St. Scholastica 10-5 in the final 2:15 of play to rally from an 11-point deficit in the third quarter and came away with a 76-71 win. Makayla Anderson scored a team-high 24 points while Carlee Sieben was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line and added 18 points.
DULUTH, Minn. (2/15/25)---With 2:45 left to play in the third quarter of the Cobbers' game at St. Scholastica, the outcome didn't look very rosy. The Cobbers trailed by 11 points and weren't able to cut into the Saints' lead throughout the first 30 minutes of play.
And then things changed. The Cobbers scored the next nine points to finish off the third quarter, tied the game in the first 2:20 of the fourth frame and outkicked St. Scholastica down the stretch to come away with a 76-71 win.
Concordia outscored the Saints 10-5 in the final 2:15 of play to record their fifth straight road win on a Saturday. The victory also brings the Cobbers within one game of clinching a spot in the MIAC playoffs.
CC is now 15-8 in all games and 10-6 in league play. The Cobbers are tied for fourth place in the MIAC standings.
St. Scholastica drops out of the Top 6 in the MIAC. They fall to 11-12 overall and 8-8 in the conference.
Concordia led for the first half of the opening quarter but gave up an 11-1 run to St. Scholastica which turned a 13-7 lead into an 18-13 deficit. The Cobbers trailed by three after the first quarter, never got the lead in the second period and fell behind 33-30 at the halftime break before heading into the pivotal fourth quarter down 51-49.
The biggest difference in the game came at the free throw line. The Saints made two more field goals (29-27) and four more shots from outside the arc (9-5) but the Cobbers went 17-for-26 at the foul stripe as opposed to 9-for-28 for St. Scholastica.
The Saints also held a 37-33 edge in rebounds, but Concordia held a slight 42-40 advantage in points in the paint.
Senior Makayla Anderson led all scorers with 24 points. She went 10-for-17 from the floor and added a team-high six rebounds.
The Cobbers had three other starters with at least 10 points in the game.
Carlee Sieben was a perfect 7-for-7 from the foul line and finished with 18 points and four steals.
Seniors Greta Tollefson and Jordyn Kahler both had 10 points in the game. Tollefson also came away with two assists and two rebounds while Kahler had three boards and went 3-for-3 from the free throw line.
Concordia will finish off its road schedule for the 2025 regular season when they play at Macalester on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m.
