60-Point Principle In Effect But Cobbers Clinch
Concordia added to their 60-point principle in their final road game of the regular season at Macalester. The Cobbers could never get on tack on the offensive end of the floor and lost 61-49 to the Scots.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/19/25)---Concordia added to their 60-point principle in their final road game of the regular season at Macalester. The Cobbers could never get on tack on the offensive end of the floor and lost 61-49 to the Scots.
Concordia has now scored fewer than 60 points in 10 games this year and are now 1-9 in those games. The Cobbers are 15-9 in all games this season and all nine losses have come when they have scored fewer than 60 points.
While the single game outcome wasn't in Concordia's favor, their season-long body of work in the conference paid dividends as they were able to clinch a spot in the upcoming MIAC playoffs. The Cobbers are 10-7 against league opponents and have a chance to clinch a home playoff spot with a win in their final regular-season game on Saturday.
The two middle quarters proved to be the difference in St. Paul. The Cobbers were only outscored 29-28 in the first and fourth periods but a 23.5% (4-for-17) shooting percentage from the field and a 1-for-7 (14.3%) mark from outside the arc in the second and third quarters led Concordia to being outscored 32-21 in the middle 20 minutes of play.
For the game, Concordia shot 29.5% (13-for-44) from the floor and 20.0% (3-for-15) from outside the arc. It's the ninth time this season that CC has shot under 35.0% from the field. They are now 1-8 in those games.
Macalester (12-12, 7-10 MIAC) finished the game by shooting 38.6% (22-for-57) from the field and 23.5% (4-for-17) from distance.
The Cobbers held a 39-33 edge on the boards but the Scots countered with a 22-18 advantage in points in the paint.
Carlee Sieben and Alexa Snesrud were the only CC players with more than eight points in the game. Sieben had a team-high 11 points, while Snesrud came away with 10 points and five rebounds.
Makayla Anderson recorded a team-high 10 boards to go with eight points.
The Cobbers will hope to clinch a home playoff spot when they host Carleton on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
