Final 5 Minutes Tells The Tale In MIAC Quarterfinal
Concordia’s MIAC Quarterfinal playoff match-up with St. Benedict came down to the final 4:45 of the fourth quarter. The Cobbers led 60-52 and appeared to be headed to the conference semifinals. Unfortunately for CC then went 2-for-8 down the stretch, were outscored 16-4 and lost 68-64.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/25/25)---Concordia's MIAC Quarterfinal playoff match-up with St. Benedict came down to the final 4:45 of the fourth quarter. The Cobbers led 60-52 and appeared to be headed to the conference semifinals. Unfortunately for CC then went 2-for-8 down the stretch, were outscored 16-4 and lost 68-64.
Concordia led for over 26 minutes in the game but couldn't connect on the long ball and had their 7-game win streak against the Bennies come to an end.
The Cobbers end their season with a 16-10 record. It's the third straight season that Concordia has won at least 15 games in a year.
Concordia led by three after one quarter and took a 37-33 lead into the second half. St. Benedict was able to outscore the Cobbers 17-12 in the third period to grab a 1-point lead at 50-49 after 30 minutes of play. CC proceeded to score seven of the first nine points in the fourth quarter and had the momentum in the game. Lay-ups by Carlee Sieben and Greta Tollefson gave Concordia the 8-point lead with just under 5 minutes to play and that's when CSB was able to go on its game-changing streak.
The Cobbers finished the game by shooting a season-low 8.7% (2-for-23) from 3-point range. It's the lowest 3-point percentage in a home game for Concordia since the fourth game of the 2022 season. CC made both shots from outside the arc in the second quarter and went 0-for-17 in the other three periods of play.
St. Benedict (17-9) made three more shots from distance and finished with a 21.7% (5-for-23) from outside the arc.
Both teams made 22 field goals for the 40 minutes. CC was 22-for-65 (33.8%) while the Bennies went 22-for-61 (36.1%).
The free throw totals were also similar with the Cobbers connecting on 18-of-21 attempts from the foul line and CSB making 19-of-28 of their chances.
Concordia held a 38-32 edge in rebounding and a 32-28 advantage in points in the paint.
The Cobbers had three starters finish with a double-digit point total. Senior Makayla Anderson led all players with 19 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Anderson ends her career with 1,218 points and 774 rebounds. She is 15th on the school's all-time scoring list and No.6 in career rebounds.
Junior Molly Musland finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. She was 4-for-7 from the floor, 4-for-4 from the free throw line and made both of the Cobbers' shots from distance.
Sieben was the final member of the CC double-digit trio. She went 4-for-7 from the floor, 3-for-3 from the foul stripe and had 11 points.
Sieben caps her 3-year Cobber career with 1,099 points – No. 22 on the all-time scoring list.
