Cobbers Build Steam In Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (02/05/22)---Concordia finished off the multi-team invitational portion of its 2022 schedule by placing six wrestlers on the podium at the Don Parker Open hosted by Wis.-Eau Claire.

"Our guys really wrestled hard and we're building steam for the regional," head coach Quincy Osborn commented. 

Ty Bisek continues to grow in his first season of college wrestling. The freshman from New London, Minn. won all five of his matches and claimed the title in the 133-lb weight class. He was one of two Cobbers to finish in the Top 3 of their weight class at the meet. Junior Chase Dockter placed second in the heavyweight division after going 3-1.

The championship for Bisek is his third weight-class win of the season. He has now won 13 of his past 14 matches and has a team-best 24 wins on the year. Bisek is 24-4 on the year, and has only lost twice since the second week of December.      

Bisek's early-round wins at Eau Claire came against wrestlers from Augsburg and DII St. Cloud State. He won the championship match with a 7-2 decision over Javon Taschuk of UW-Eau Claire.

Dockter won his first four matches on the day before deciding to forfeit the championship bout. He earned his second win by pin on the year in his opening-round match. Dockter went on to claim a 2-1 decision in the quarterfinals, and beat Cullen Quick of DI Wisconsin 3-1 in the sudden victory session.

Dockter is now 12-7 on the season.

Kellen Schauer, Tyler Bents, Kaden Spindler and Ayden Friese had the other Top 6 finishes for Concordia.

Schauer and Bents both placed fourth, while Spindler and Friese were sixth in their weight classes.

Schauer was 4-2 in the 149-lb weight class at Eau Claire. He won his first three matches on the day, before falling in the semifinals against a wrestle from DII powerhouse St. Cloud State who is currently ranked second in the country. Schauer responded with a 5-1 win in the fourth round of the consolation bracket before falling in the third-place match.

Schauer is now 15-10 on the season.

Bents followed a similar path as he went 3-2 at 157. Like Schauer, Bents' loss in the semifinals came against a wrestler from SCSU. He also rallied to win his consolation match with a 10-2 major decision to claim a spot in the third-place match. Bents elected not to wrestle in the third-place bout and has 11 wins this year.

Both Spindler and Friese went 3-3 on the day – and both wrestlers chose not to compete in their final two matches in order to help with their seeding at the NCAA Region Meet.

Spindler claimed three wins by decision at 174 and is now 14-11 for the year. Friese had a pair of decision wins and also collected a pin in the second round at 184. He is 17-14 for the season. His 17 wins are second most on the team.
