Concordia had five individuals earn NWCA Scholar All-Americans. Ty Bisek, Ayden Friese, Elijah Hunt, Kellen Schauer and Gabe Zierden all received the honor and helped the Cobbers finish in the Top 15 in the Team Scholar awards.
In a storyline only a Hollywood scriptwriter could create, senior Gabe Zierden won the Upper Midwest Regional championship at 197 and was one of seven place winners for the Cobbers.
It was the lucky number seven for the Cobbers on Friday at the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional Meet. Concordia had seven wrestlers advance to Saturday after a rollercoaster Day 1.
It's go time for the No.23-ranked Cobbers. They've waited all season to get to this point. The wait is over and the NCAA Upper Midwest Regional is upon Concordia when they travel to Stevens Point, Wis. on Mar. 1-2
No.23-ranked Concordia honored its seven seniors before its Senior Celebration Night and then five of those seniors went out and honored their teammates by getting wins in the Cobbers’ 33-13 win over the University of Jamestown.
It wasn’t the outcome they wanted, but the Cobbers returned from the NWCA National Duals with a pair of wins and several quality individual performances. Concordia dropped its first two duals of the tournament, but responded by posting wins over Olivet (Mich.) and Aurora (Ill.).
It was an opening and a closing for the Cobbers in the middle of December. No.11-ranked Concordia opened its dual meet schedule and closed out the 2023 portion of its schedule by going 2-1 at the Prairie Wolf Duals hosted by Neb. Wesleyan.
Ty Bisek, Gabe Zierden and Ayden Friese won weight class titles at the Haws/Elton 4-Team Rumble hosted by St. John’s and were a part of a group of 17 Cobbers who recorded Top 5 finishes.
Concordia used a big helping of veterans and a dash of rookies to cook up seven Top 6 finishes at the University of Jamestown Jimmie Open.
