Cobbers Open And Close In Dual With Univ. of Sioux Falls
Concordia opened its dual-meet season and closed out the 2024 portion of its schedule by dropping a 22-13 decision to Division II Univ. of Sioux Falls.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/22/24)---Concordia opened its dual-meet season and closed out the 2024 portion of its schedule by dropping a 22-13 decision to Division II Univ. of Sioux Falls.
The Cobbers came away with three individual weight-class wins on the day – one by a pin, one by a major decision and one by a decision.
The team match started with a double forfeit at 125 and then Sioux Falls earned a 14-1 major decision win at 133.
The Cobbers tied the match at 4-4 behind a dominant performance from No.11-ranked Ty Bisek at 141. Bisek took the offensive in his match in the first period and was able to get a takedown in the first period. He chose the down position to start the second period, got an escape and added a takedown in the final minute of the period. Bisek didn't allow his opponent any chance to get on the scoreboard and tacked on a riding time point to post the 8-0 win.
Bisek is now 12-1 on the season. His 12 victories lead the Cobbers and he is now 99-16 in his career at Concordia.
The Cobbers' other wins on the day came at 165 and 197. Elijah Hunt wore down his opponent to record a 6-2 decision at 165. He had a single takedown in each of the second and third periods to post his ninth win of the year.
Will Freking brought the Memorial Auditorium crowd to its feet with a pin at 197. He started slow but turned his match in the final minute of the first period and was able to turn his opponent onto his back for a pin at the 2:54 mark.
The win is No.7 on the year for Freking and all seven have come via a pin.
Senior Alex McPhee had the closest other match for CC. He traded reversals in the second period in his match at 157 and was tied at 4-4 heading into the final period before giving up a takedown and falling 7-5.
There were three exhibition matches to start the dual meet. Freshman Jackson Marr came away with the only win for CC as he used an early takedown to roll to a 15-6 major decision win at 149.

Concordia will be off for three weeks for the holiday break and return to action on Jan. 10-11 when they compete at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
