Swanson Leads Cobbers On Day 1 At NWCA National Duals
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (1/09/26)---Concordia dropped a pair of decisions on the first day of the prestigious NWCA National Duals Meet at the University of Iowa Dome.
The Cobbers lost 25-16 against No.10-ranked Coe (Iowa) in the opener and then fell 31-14 to Cornell in the first round on the consolation side of the bracket.
Concordia was led by senior Mason Swanson, who posted wins in both matches including a thrilling 4-2 win over No.15-ranked Wyatt Smith from Coe.
Swanson was the only CC athlete to record wins in both matches while Kie Anderson, Aidan Ruddy, Brody Duke, Aiden Russell and Nate Kisgen all had single victories for the day.
Concordia 16, #10 Coe 25
The opener was tied 6-6 as the teams traded pins in the first two bouts. Anderson got the Cobbers on the board with a pin at the 4:01 mark in the second period. The pin was Anderson's fourth of the season and his sixth overall win.
Coe earned the victory by posting four straight wins from 141 through 165. The tightest match in that stretch came at 149 where sophomore Jack Major lost a 7-6 nail-biter against No.13-ranked Dresden Grimm.
Concordia was able to cut into the 16-point deficit with back-to-back wins coming from Duke and Russell. Duke claimed an 11-3 major decision at 174 and Russell followed with a 9-4 decision at 184.
The win for Duke was his first major decision win of the year and third overall victory. Russell also picked up his third win in 2026.

Concordia 14, Cornell 31
The Cobbers fell behind 14-0 after the first three bouts against the Rams. Ruddy stopped the Cornell streak when he came through with a 4-3 decision at 149. It was Ruddy's third win of the year.
Cornell (3-5) won the next two matches before Nate Kisgen posted an 18-2 tech fall at 184. His win gave CC a pair of victories at the 184-lb weight class for the day. Kisgen is now 4-3 on the year and has won two straight.
Swanson capped Day 1 in Iowa with his second pin of the season. He put both of his opponent's shoulders on the mat at the 5:23 mark.
Swanson has now won five of his last six matches and is 6-3 for the season.
Concordia will face Albion (Mich.) in the first of two guaranteed matches on Saturday. CC will square off with the Britons at 9 a.m. and then finish off the weekend with a bout at 11 a.m.
