MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/24/26)---Concordia returned to dual-meet action as they renewed their rivalry with MSU Moorhead. The Cobbers couldn't overcome an early 13-point deficit and lost 35-13.
Concordia picked up three individual victories on the day but couldn't slow a streak of bonus-point wins by the Dargons and had their 3-match dual-meet win streak come to an end.
The Cobbers' early hole came after the Dragons opened with a pin at 125 pounds, but senior Kie Anderson answered immediately at 133. Neither wrestler was able to score a point in the first period and then Anderson earned his eighth pin of the year at the 3:57 after he started the period in the top position.
Anderson has now won eight straight matches and is 14-5 for the year.
Anderson's pin tied the match at 6-6 but then MSUM responded with back-to-back bonus results at 141 and 149 to stretch the lead to 16–6.
First-Year athlete Chris Acuna had the closest match of the day at 157. He was tied heading into the second period and took a 1-0 lead on an escape to start the middle frame. Unfortunately, Acuna gave up a takedown and a 2-point near fall but battled back with an escape, a penalty point and riding time to lose 6-4.
Concordia's second win of the afternoon came at 165, where Nick Ankeny controlled the pace throughout an 8–3 decision which cut the team deficit to 19–9.
Ankeny never trailed in the match as he posted a takedown in the first and second periods and earned the riding point to take the 5-point victory. The win was Ankeny's eighth of the season.
The Dragons, however, regained control with tech falls at both 174 and 184.
At 197, Will Freking delivered one of the Cobbers' best performances of the dual. He had a takedown and a 3-point near fall at the end of the first period and then capped the 10-0 major decision victory with a takedown in the third period.
The win was Freking's fourth in his last six matches, and he is now 9-8 on the year.
No.15-ranked Mason Swanson finished off the dual meet but got caught in a scramble late in the second period and was pinned at 4:43.
The Cobbers return to multi-team invitational action next weekend when they compete at the Wheaton College Pete Willson Invite in Wheaton, Ill. on Jan. 30-31.
