Depth Is Rewarded At Cobber Last Shot Invite
Concordia showed off its depth at the 2nd annual Cobber Last Shot Invite. CC came away with a pair of weight-class winners, 10 Top 3 finishers, 14 Top 5 places and 18 podium finishers.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/07/26)---Concordia finished off the multi-team invitational portion of its schedule by hosting the 2nd annual Cobber Last Shot Invite.
The home event allowed the Cobbers to showcase its depth across all weight divisions and Concordia used that depth to come away with a pair of weight-class winners, 10 Top 3 finishers, 14 Top 5 places and 18 podium finishers.
Sophomore Jack Major and junior Nick Ankeny paced the Cobbers as both athletes claimed titles in their weight classes.
Major dominated the 141-lb bracket with four straight pins, including falls in 22 seconds, 3:27, 1:04 and 3:21, to claim the title. His third pin of the day came in the semifinals over Dickinson State's Marcus Mireles before closing out the championship bout with another fall against St. John's Dallas Sibbet.
Ankeny went 3-0 on the day to claim the championship at 165. After opening with a bye, Ankeny secured a tech fall and a decision to reach the finals, where he edged teammate Zach Pribyl 5–3 in an all‑Concordia championship match. Pribyl advanced to the final with a pair of tech falls, giving the Cobbers a 1–2 finish in the weight class.
Senior Kie Anderson was one of six Concordia wrestlers to make it to the finals. He went 2-1 at 133. He reached the title match following first‑period pins in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. Anderson dropped a tight 3–2 decision in the title match to finish as runner‑up.
At 157, Anthony Baumann also made the finals after a tech fall, a sudden‑victory win and a 10–7 semifinal decision. He placed second after falling in the championship.
The Cobbers added several third‑place performances as well. At 149, Jackson Marr rebounded from a semifinal loss and defeated teammate Zaniyan Iron Eyes by fall in the third‑place match. Iron Eyes placed fourth after earning two pins and a decision during his run through the bracket.
Stetson Gisselbeck battled back from an early loss to win three straight matches – two bonus‑point victories and an 8–4 decision in the third‑place match to claim third place at 157.
At 174, Brody Duke finished third after pinning Jaxon Newton in the quarterfinals and later earning a tech fall over teammate Quinton Harcey in the consolation semifinal before winning 8–3 for third place. Harcey placed fifth in the same bracket with two wins by fall.
In the upper weights, William Freking took second at 197, advancing to the finals with a major decision before dropping a 7–3 title match.
At heavyweight, Mason Swanson placed third by closing the day with three straight wins, including a tech fall, a major decision and a 5–3 decision for third place. Sam Dioszeghy, also at 285, finished fifth with three falls on the day, while Zach Carnes was sixth.
Concordia will have two home dual meets before competing at the NCAA Region VII Meet on Feb. 27-28.
