Collegiate Firsts Gain Double OT Tie
A pair of sophomores recorded collegiate firsts and helped Concordia tie regionally-ranked Carleton 1-1 on Homecoming Saturday.

STORY LINE: Sophomore defender Rachel Nemer picked a perfect time to score her first collegiate goal as she hammered home a volley in the 88th minute of play against regionally-ranked Carleton and helped give Concordia a 1-1 2OT tie on Homecoming Saturday.
RECORDS: The Cobbers earn their second straight 1-1 OT tie in conference play and are now 1-2-2 in the MIAC. CC is unbeaten in its last three conference game and now has five league points which ties their total from all of last season. Concordia is 4-4-2 in all games. Carleton also posts their second straight MIAC tie. The Knights remain unbeaten in conference play at 2-0-3 and are now 5-1-4 in all games.
OFFENSIVE MINDED DEFENDER: Rachel Nemer nearly notched her first collegiate in the Cobbers' last game on Tuesday against Macalester. Nemer had a potential game winner get tipped over the bar in overtime. On Saturday Nemer made sure the goalie wouldn't have the chance to rob her of the first collegiate nugget. Nemer was put into an attacking position when Concordia pushed players forward at the end of regulation to get a game-tying goal. That strategy paid off as Nemer settled a pass out of the air and then pounded a volley into the side netting. Her shot on goal was her third of the season which matches her total from all of last year.
LEANING ON LARSEN: Concordia sophomore goalie Erin Larsen made her first collegiate start a memorable one as she made five saves and earned the tie. She entered the game having played only 15:11 in her first two seasons in maroon and gold. Larsen influenced the game with her distribution skills and controlled the defense to help CC record the tie with Carleton who was nationally ranked earlier in the year.
STAT STUFF: Concordia held the advantage on the stat sheer. CC had 10-8 margin in total shots and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. The Cobbers also had five more corner kicks (8-3) in the game. Nemer and Kalli Baarstad led Concordia with two shots on goal each.
UP NEXT: Concordia will start October by hosting Northwestern (Minn.) on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles are 3-4-3 on the year and tied St. Scholastica 0-0 on Saturday.
