Concordia scored six times in the second half of their non-conference game with Minn.-Morris to cruise to a 6-0 win.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/10/11)---Concordia scored six times in the second half of their non-conference game with Minn.-Morris to cruise to a 6-0 win.
The Cobbers broke open the scoreless tie at the break by scoring in the first minute of the second period and three times in a span of 4:35 in the middle of the half.
The win is the second straight for Concordia. The Cobbers are now 2-3-0 for the season.
Concordia controlled the first half but couldn't get on the board. The Cobbers had 13 total shots in the first period of play, and put up six shots on goal but went to the break all tied at 0-0.
Senior Lauren Tschider scored the game-winning goal at the 45:54 mark when she headed home a cross from freshman Amber Weibye. Weiybe gained control of the ball on the right wing and then served the ball toward the Morris goal. The ball sailed over the Cougars' goalie and Tschider was able to run on to the service and head home her first goal of the season.
The game-breaking trio of goals started when Megan Barnick found the back of the net on a corner kick for the second straight game. The goal came directly off the corner from the left wing – the same way she scored against Minn.-Crookston on Wednesday.
Her third career goal at 59:05 doubled the CC lead and set the tone for the next 10 minutes of play. Junior midfielder Sophia Robinson scored her first goal of the year at 61:05, and then Weiybe nettted her second goal in as many games at 63:40.
The two Samanthas finished off the scoring for Concordia. Samantha Dalsin proved that persistence pays off as she took several shots that were blocked from seven yards out. She finally got control of the ball and slid a shot in the far left corner. Samantha Holmberg then went solo to finish off the 6-goal barrage. She got possession of the ball 30 yards out from goal and then dribbled through the Morris defense and fired a low shot past the UMM keeper.
Concordia outshot Morris 27-5 in total shots and 17-1 in shots on goal. CC also had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Bre Nelson made one save to record her first collegiate shutout.
