Ellis' Last-Second Winner Gives Cobbers Weekend Sweep

LINCOLN, Neb. (9/8/24)---Less than 24 hours after scoring her first collegiate goal, sophomore Kara Ellis scored the biggest goal of her career when she netted the game-winning goal against Neb. Wesleyan with 13-seconds left in regulation.
Ellis' looping shot into the top left corner gave the Cobbers a 2-1 lead against the Prairie Wolves in Lincoln, Neb.
The victory gave Concordia two wins for the weekend and ups their overall season record to 3-1.
Concordia never trailed in the game against Neb. Wesleyan. Senior Emily Larsen continued the weekend's "first goal" theme when she scored her first college goal in the 15th minute of the opening half to give CC a 1-0 lead.
Larsen's milestone moment came from a corner kick when she served the ball into the 6-yard box and the ball caromed off the NWU goalie and spun into the net. The goal at 14:50 would be the only tally of the first 45 minutes of play.
Nebraska Wesleyan came up with the equalizer at the 77:27 mark when they scored on a breakaway after a wind-aided long pass from deep in the NWU end.
That set the stage for Ellis who took possession of the ball after Larsen 1-timed a clearance from a clearance attempt from a Neb. Wesleyan defender in the middle of the field. The ball went right to Ellis, who standing 23 yards out from goal. She settled the ball with her back to goal, turned and fired a half volley over the top of the goalie and under the crossbar from 20 yards out with only 13 seconds left on the clock.
The goal was Ellis' second in as many days and gave Larsen two points for the game.
Concordia outshot the Prairie Wolves 17-9 in total shots and 12-7 in shots on goal. Emma Sheflo posted a team-high four total shots with three shots on frame.
Kaitlin Petrich picked up her second win of the weekend by stopping six of the seven shots she faced.
Concordia will host its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 14 when the face Wis.-Superior at 1:30 p.m.
