Nightmare Turns Into Sweet Dreams In Win At Macalester
Concordia conceded a goal in the first 15 seconds at Macalester but then rallied to score two unanswered goals and beat the Scots 2-1.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (9/28/24)---The first 15 seconds of Concordia's game at Macalester was straight out of a nightmare. The final 89:45 was like waking up, falling back to sleep and having nothing but sweet dreams.
The Cobbers conceded a goal at the 15-second mark of the opening half against the Scot but then scored a pair of unanswered goals to come away with a 2-1 win in St. Paul. The win in St. Paul is the first for the Cobbers at Macalester since the 2014 season.
The victory is the Cobbers' second of the MIAC season and ups their conference record to 2-1. CC is 6-2 in all games and finished the month of September with a 5-1 mark.
It took Concordia 17:10 to equalize after Macalester's shocking start to the game. The Cobbers were able to put the equalizer on the board when Hannah Mukhtar played Amber Weibye through the back of the Scots' defense and she was able to connect on her first goal of the year at the 17:25 mark.
The game-winning goal came with 14:23 remaining in the opening half. Concordia's hottest goal scorer once again stepped up to find the back of the net. First-year forward Reese Christ gave CC a 2-1 lead when she netted her third goal in the last four games at the 30:37 mark. The strike was also Christ's team-leading fourth of the year.
Concordia's defense took over from that point forward, allowing only one shot on goal in the final 55 minutes of play.
Cobber goalie Kaitlin Petrich needed to make only three saves to record her sixth win of the season and 11th of her career.
Concordia outshot the Scots 10-9 in total shots with the shots on goal being equal at 4-4.
The Cobbers will look to continue their September success in October when they host Hamline on Tue. Oct. 1 at 4 p.m.
