MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/05/24)---Concordia's home win streak came to an end on a day that was dominated by the Moorhead wind.
The Cobbers and St. Mary's battled a wind that gusted up to 30 mph and in the end, it was a first-half penalty kick that proved to be the only offense on the day in a 1-0 decision.
Concordia conceded a spot-kick goal in the 38th minute and neither team was able to break through the wind for the final 52 minutes of play.
The Cobbers entered the game 3-0 at home and had won two straight games which put them in the Top 3 of the MIAC. The loss drops Concordia's overall record to 7-3-0 on the year. CC is now 3-2-0 in conference play.
St. Mary's moves to 6-2-3 in all games and 3-1-1 in the league.
The majority of the game was played between the two penalty areas as both teams' defenses entered the game in the Top 3 of the MIAC. The tough defensive play coupled with a wind that was blowing across the field limited the number of quality chances from around the goal area.
The Cardinals finished the game with a 6-4 edge in total shots and a 5-2 margin in shots on goal. The Cobbers held the upper hand in corner kicks with a 4-2 advantage.
Senior midfielder Amber Weibye led the Cobbers with two total shots. Chloe Sollom and Emily Larsen had the shots on goal for CC.
Kaitlin Petrich made four saves in goal.
Concordia will have a full week to train before their next game. The Cobbers will play at Augsburg on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
