Cobbers Lose, But Stay In Top 6 For Playoff Race

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/26)---Concordia gave up a pair of first-half goals, and two penalty kick goals, and lost 3-0 at regionally-ranked St. Catherine.
The Cobbers were unable to find their momentum on offense as they dropped to 8-6-1 in all games and 4-5-1 in MIAC play. Concordia is now in sixth place in the conference standings in the race for the Top 6 spots in the league to make postseason tournament.
St. Catherine is tied atop the MIAC standings with a 7-0-3 record. The Wildcats are 10-2-4 in all games.
Concordia got off to a slow start, allowing the opening goal of the game in the 11th minute of play. The only non-penalty kick goal of the game came after a punt from the St. Catherine goalie up the right wing and then a through ball behind the center of the Cobber defense.
The Wildcats scored the first of their two penalty kick goals with 4:35 left in the first half. A Cobber defender ran over one of the Wildcats from the back at the top of the penalty area and SCU was able to convert the ensuing spot kick to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The final goal came on the second penalty kick in the 80th minute of play. Once again it was a CC defender hitting a St. Kate's attacker from behind that was whistled for the foul.
Concordia was outshot 14-6 in total shots on the game. CC had a single shot on goal in the contest.
Emma Sheflo had two total shots and Darby Hannan had the lone shot on goal for the Cobbers.
Kaitlin Petrich made six saves and now has 82 on the season. That total is the fourth most in the MIAC this year.
Concordia will look to clinch its second consecutive playoff spot when they finish off the regular season at St. Olaf on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
