MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/5/25) – The Cobbers fought through gusty conditions and put together a gritty defensive effort, but they came up just short in a 1-0 loss against Northwestern (Minn.) on Friday afternoon.
The Cobbers came out aggressive from the opening whistle. Kara Ellis and Emma Sheflo both forced saves in the first 10 minutes, putting the Eagles on their heels early. On the other end, senior goalkeeper Julia Roark kept Northwestern quiet, making two key stops to help send the teams into halftime locked in a scoreless tie.
The breakthrough came midway through the second half when Northwestern's Marie Kendall found the back of the net in the 68th minute.
Concordia kept pressing in search of the equalizer. Ellis fired three more shots on goal in the second half, while Sheflo nearly leveled the match in the 83rd minute when her strike clipped the crossbar. The Cobbers also earned a handful of late corner kicks but couldn't quite capitalize as the wind continued to play a factor in possession and finishing.
Roark closed the match with seven saves to anchor the defense, while Ellis paced the Cobber attack with five total shots and three on frame.
Concordia gets a quick turnaround and a chance to regroup at home, hosting Nebraska Wesleyan on Sunday, Sept. 7, at Jake Christiansen Stadium.
