ST. PAUL, MINN (9/16/25) – The Concordia-Moorhead women's soccer team gave it everything they had but came up just short, falling 2-0 to Hamline in a competitive matchup in the MIAC opener for both teams.
From the opening whistle, the Cobbers played with energy and purpose, testing Hamline goalkeeper Maddox Fergus multiple times. Abby Feddema had an early chance that forced a strong save, and Concordia-Moorhead keeper Julia Roark was busy throughout the match, turning away key attempts from Christin Broyles and Elysse Tanaka. Despite their efforts, the Cobbers couldn't find the back of the net.
Hamline struck first in the 11th minute when Addyson Barrett converted a pass from Jayden Hernandez, giving the Pipers a 1-0 lead. Concordia-Moorhead kept the pressure on, with shots from Kara Ellis, Emma Sheflo, Darby Hannan, Tyra Skjeret, and Nora Schwieters, but the halftime score remained 1-0.
In the second half, the Cobbers continued to press offensively. Ellis, Sheflo, Schwieters, Skjeret, and Hannan all tested Fergus, but Hamline's keeper held strong. The Pipers extended their lead in the 75th minute when Broyles found the net off an assist from Alexi Schneider. Concordia-Moorhead pushed hard until the final whistle, including a late corner kick in the 88th minute, but could not overcome the deficit.
Ellis finished with three shots, two on goal, while Roark recorded seven saves in a standout performance between the pipes.
The Cobbers will look to bounce back on the road at St. Catherine on September 20th at 1:00 p.m.
