Cobbers Match 2016-17 Dual Win Total
Concordia claimed its second straight dual meet win of the weekend to match its total from all of last year.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/28/17)---Concordia won two dual meets in all of the 2016-17 season. On Saturday the Cobbers won their second dual competition in as many days to start the 2017-18 season.
Concordia won five individual events, both ends of the diving event and both relays and went on to beat the College of St. Mary 111-81.
The Cobbers also claimed victories in five of the first six events in the meet to match their dual-meet win total from last season.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Alaina Dehnke, Ciara White, Lauren Arnold and Anna Backes swam a 4:22.88 to give the Cobbers the momentum and a win in the very first event of the day.
Freshman Allison Marcus, sophomore Lydia Larson, freshman Amy Warren and freshman diver Cassandra Bohnsack tacked on event wins to stake Concordia to a big lead after six events.
Marcus won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:15.40 – which won the event by a full five seconds. Larson then clocked a 27.74 to win the 50-yard freestyle before Warren raced to a win in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:03.77. Her time is less than eight seconds off the school record set in 2011.
Bohnsack gives Concordia a presence in the diving arena and helps the Cobbers score points where they didn't have that factor last season. Bohnsack won both parts of the diving event and finished with 151.44 points after the second segment.
Backes won her second straight 100-yard freestyle event of the weekend. On Friday she won the event at the Concordia Triangular Meet and then on Saturday she clocked a 58.68 to win the race by 1.38 seconds.
White capped the individual event wins for Concordia as she won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:04.24.
The 400-yard freestyle team of Larson, Warren, Dehnke and Backes finished off the dual meet with a win as Backes touched the wall in a time of 3:59.03. That time is less than three seconds off the Cobbers' seed time in the MIAC Meet last season.
