A Case Of Close Calls At MSU Moorhead
There were plenty of close races in the Cobbers' dual at MSU Moorhead as they posted their best score against the Dragons in 20 years.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/21/23)---It was a case of close calls for the Cobbers in their dual meet at MSU Moorhead. Concordia had several exciting close finishes with the Dragons, but lost 122-88.
The 34-point difference is the closest have the Cobbers have been against MSU Moorhead since the 2002-03 season when Concordia beat the Dragons 165-125.
The Cobbers were paced by event winners Hailey Jaeger and Kiernan Darling. Jaeger claimed the victory in the 50-yard freestyle, while Darling won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions.
Jaeger's win in the 50 free was one of several close races on the day. She won by .25 of a second with a time of 25.98. That time is a season best for Jaeger and is at a similar spot where she was last season when she broke the school record in the event at the MIAC Championship Meet.
Jaeger also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle after touching the wall in a season-best time of 56.77. She was touched out for first place by only .80 of a second.
Darling continues to give Concordia vital team points by continuing to push her season-best scores in both diving events. Darling won the 1-meter competition with a score of 188.20 which was less than .50 of point ahead of the second-place finisher.
Darling then put up a season-best score in the 3-meter event with a mark of 190.50. It was the second time she has gone through a 6-dive list in the 3-meter.
The Cobbers also had two other swimmers who recorded a trio of second-place finishes. Kaitlin Cramer was runner-up in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, while freshman Haley Juetten was second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Cramer swam a 2:16.91 in the 200-yard freestyle, and then posted a season-best mark of 5:59.91in the 500-yard freestyle.
Juetten clocked a 1:20.52 in the 100-yard breaststroke which is a season best.
Freshman Christina Moore came up with her best meet of the year by posting a pair of third-place finishes. Moore was third in the 100-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 1:14.55. She finished the meet by being the top Cobber finisher in the 100-yard backstroke. She clocked a 1:13.19 which was .29 of a second faster than teammate Camille Gunderson.
UP NEXT: Concordia will have a series of home and away dual meets next weekend. The Cobbers will host Jamestown and the Univ. of Mary in a double dual on Friday, Jan. 27 at 4:30 p.m. CC will then head to Morris to compete against Minn.-Morris on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m.
