Cobbers Compete At WildBear Invitational
Concordia competed in the final day of the 3-day WildBear Invitational hosted by St. Catherine and Concordia-St. Paul.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (11/23/24)---Concordia competed in the final day of the 3-day WildBear Invitational hosted by St. Catherine and Concordia-St. Paul.
The event, which was mainly Division II and NAIA schools, was a conference championship-style meet with prelims in the morning and then the finals of events in the afternoon.
The Cobbers had nine athletes compete in the six swimming and one diving events on Saturday. Concordia came away with one B finalist and three C finalists who competed in the afternoon session.
Sophomore Callie Metsala and first-year swimmer Leah Enedy led Concordia in the swim events. Metsala qualified for the B final in the 100-yard individual medley and the C final in the 100-yard freestyle, while Enedy was in the C final for both the 100-yard IM and 200-yard breaststroke.
Metsala's best time of the day in the 100 IM came in the prelims where she clocked a 1:03.79. That time is the third fastest in the MIAC this season.
Enedy posted a time of 1:05.11 in the C final of event. That mark jumps her into the Top 10 of the MIAC. Enedy now holds the No.8 time in the conference in the event.
Hailey Jaeger nearly made it three Cobbers in the finals of the 100 IM. She swam a 1:07.08 in the prelims which was only .63 of a second away from qualifying for the C final.
Metsala also qualified for the C final in the 100-yard freestyle by posting a time of 56.20 in the prelims. That mark is also a season best and puts her in the No.10 position in the MIAC.
Enedy came up with an MIAC Top 15 time of 2:38.57 in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke. That is a season-best mark and No.13 in the conference this season.
Senior Kiernan Darling posted the highest finish of any Cobber at the WildBear Invite. She was fifth in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 331.70. She was the second highest MIAC finisher in the 1-meter event at the meet and her final total puts her third in the MIAC this season.
Concordia will have a break for Thanksgiving and return to action on Dec. 6 when they compete in the 2-day Roger Ahlman Invite hosted by Macalester.
