MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (2/20/25)---Make it three school records broken for the Cobbers on Day 2 at the MIAC Championship Meet.
Less than 24 hours after Concordia's 200-yard medley relay team set a new program mark, the Cobbers had three individual school records busted at the conference meet.
The records came courtesy of sophomore Callie Metsala and senior Hailey Jaeger. Metsala broke the school record in the 200-yard individual medley not once, but twice and Jaeger bettered the program mark in the 100-yard backstroke.
The two swimmers helped Concordia earn 36 team points in the team standings. CC is in eighth place after Thursday with 82 total points. They are only two points behind Hamline for the No.7 spot.
Metsala opened the day by breaking the record in the prelims of the 200-yard IM. She swam a 2:14.34 which beat the old program mark of 2:17.13 set by Amy Warren in 2018.
Metsala's time in the prelims earned her a spot in the "B" finals in the night session. Metsala was the only Cobber to qualify for the finals on Thursday.
Metsala didn't rest on her morning record as she dropped even more time off the school mark in the finals. She beat her time in the prelims by almost a full second as she touched the wall in 2:13.40 to claim 10th place in the final event standings.
Jaeger's school record came in the only relay of the Thursday night session. She swam the opening leg of the 400-yard medley relay and clocked a 1:00.96 in the 100-yard backstroke. Her time bettered the 10-year-old mark of 1:01.13 set by Libby Hardwick.
Jaeger's opening-leg record helped Concordia put up a season-best time of 4:28.13. Haley Imholte, Christina Moore and Tinsley Porter finished the final three legs for CC. Their time was 3.28 seconds faster than the Cobbers posted at last year's MIAC Meet.
Jaeger also recorded a Top 20 finish in the 50-yard freestyle. She swam a season-best time of 25.13 in the prelims and placed 18th in the event.
The other Top 10 finish for Concordia on Thursday came in the 3-meter diving event. Senior Kiernan Darling came through with a career-best total of 325.70. Her total was only four points away from qualifying for the finals. Her score, buoyed by her first successful 2.5 somersault dive, was 13.10 points better than her score from last year at the meet.
Imholte and Porter also led a group of five CC swimmers who all posted career-best times during the prelims. Joining Imholte and Porter were Maddi Barlage, Rachel Bringle and Estella Zwietelhofer who all came away with their top times.
Concordia will continue the 4-day MIAC Meet when they swim in the Day 3 prelims on Friday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m.
