Cobbers Drop Back-To-Back MIAC Road Matches

WINONA, Minn. (3/16/14)—Concordia completed a back-to-back conference road trip weekend by falling 9-0 at St. Mary's on Sunday. That match came less than 24 after the Cobbers lost to regionally-ranked St. Thomas on Saturday.

The top performance of the weekend for Concordia was turned in by sophomore Morgan Sawatzke who lost in a super-set tie-breaker on Sunday at St. Mary's. Sawatzke lost the opening set 6-3 at No.4 singles but then roared back to earn a 6-2 win in the second set. She was unable to carry the momentum from the second set into the tie-breaker and wound up losing 10-2.

Kaitlyn Davies also had a close singles bout against the Cardinals. Davies fell 6-3, 6-2 at No.2 singles. The most dramatic doubles match of the day for Concordia was played out at the No.3 doubles position. The Cobber tandem of Rose Reinert and Celia Peloquin fell 8-4.

Concordia will return to Moorhead to host five consecutive home matches. The Cobbers will start their five-match home stand when they square off against non-conference foe Northwestern (Minn.) on Saturday, Mar. 22 at 3 p.m.
