Cobbers Cap First Double Dip Weekend
Concordia capped its first doubleheader weekend of the season by dropping a 9-0 decision to St. Scholastica.
FARGO, N.D. (2/08/15)—Concordia capped its first doubleheader weekend of the season by dropping a 9-0 decision to St. Scholastica. The match against the Saints was the second half of the weekend conference/non-conference twinbill.
The Cobbers made their biggest push in the match against St. Scholastica at the start in the doubles and then again at No.4 singles.
All three of the doubles bouts were hotly contested with the Cobber No.2 and No.3 doubles tandems losing by identical 8-4 scores. Jade Haseltine and Taylor Peterson battled through their match at No.2 doubles but came up short as they were unable to create the passing shots needed and lost 8-4. Morgan Sawatzke and Rose Reinert stayed within striking distance throughout their match at No.3 doubles but tripped up in the end and lost 8-4.
Peterson had the closest match of any singles bouts. She took any early lead in her dual at No.4 singles. She was unable to hold serve late in the first set and lost 7-5. Peterson wound up losing 7-5, 6-1.
Jade Haseltine also won multiple games in her match at No.3 singles. Haseltine lost 6-2, 6-3 and is now 1-2 on the season.
Concordia will continue with its five-match home stand to start the season. The Cobbers will host St. Thomas on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 3:30 p.m. Due to a schedule conflict the match will be played at the Grand Forks Choice Health and Fitness.
