ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/12/15)—Concordia improved each day on their conference back-to-back-to-back road trip but came up short in all three matches against St. Catherine, Hamline and Macalester.
The Cobbers started the St. Paul swing by falling 9-0 to St. Catherine on Friday. CC then lost 7-2 at Hamline on Saturday before dropping a 6-3 decision at Macalester on Sunday.
Concordia is now 2-10 overall this season and 0-9 in league play.
The closest match against the Wildcats on Friday came at No.5 singles where Cobber freshman Susan Zniewski lost the opening set 6-2 but then battled hard in the second set before losing 6-4. Zniewski would help earn one of the wins on Sunday against the Scots.
Concordia earned its very first doubles win in conference play on Saturday against the Pipers. Brittany Glatt and Kendra Stoick teamed up at No.2 doubles to claim an 8-5 victory.
Zniewski and and Liz Elton nearly gave the Cobbers a 2-1 lead heading into singles play but wound up losing 8-4.
The lone singles win against Hamline came in the No.2 spot where Jade Haseltine came away with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory. The win was Haseltine's team-leading third singles victory of the year and first in conference play.
The Cobbers saved the best for the final match of the weekend. CC once again trailed 2-1 after doubles play against Macalester and then wound up winning two singles bouts.
Zniewski partnered with Stoick at No.3 doubles and the pair gelled quickly to earn the 8-0 victory.
Taylor Peterson and Morgan Sawatzke gave Concordia the singles wins. Both players needed to go to extra games in the opening set and both players then won on straight sets. Peterson recorded a 7-5, 6-1 at No.4 singles and Sawatzke claimed a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No.5 singles. Both Peterson and Sawatzke earned their third singles win of the season and are now tied with Haseltine for the team lead.
Concordia will close out the 2015 season with a trio of home matches next weekend. The Cobbers will play MSU Moorhead on Friday, Apr. 17 at 5p.m. CC will then host St. Cloud State on Saturday, Apr. 18 at 2:30 p.m. and then square off against nationally-ranked Gustavus on Sunday, Apr. 19 at 2 p.m.
