Leaving Florida With Momentum

ORLANDO, Fla. (3/07/19)---Concordia saved its best for last on their annual spring break trip as they won all six singles matches and rolled to an 8-1 win over Adrian (Mich.). The Cobbers were 2-2 in their final four matches in Florida and finished their trip 3-2.

Concordia's other win in Florida came against Midway University when the Cobbers won five of six singles bouts and claimed a 7-2 victory.

Concordia heads back to Minnesota with a 3-10 overall record.

The Cobbers opened their spring break by losing a 5-4 heartbreaker to Coe (Iowa). Concordia dropped two of the three doubles bouts against the Kohawks and then split the six singles matches. Senior Lisa Neumann won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at No.3 singles while Josie Beachy won 6-2, 6-4 at No.4 singles and Brianna Bell claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win at No.6 singles.

Concordia then earned their 7-2 win over Midway on Tuesday. Beachy teamed with Lexi Johnson to record an 8-7 win at No.2 doubles and then Neumann and Rachel Saxen won 8-4 at No.3 doubles. Ivy Mattson, Neumann, Beachy, Johnson and Bell all won their singles bouts to push the final score to 7-2.

The Cobbers lost 7-0 to NCAA Division II Grand Valley State on Wednesday.

Concordia then started the final day in Florida by falling 7-2 to Regis College (Mass.).  Neumann and Saxen claimed the lone doubles win and then Bell won 6-3, 6-3 at No.5 singles.

In the trip finale against Adrian, Concordia's No.2 and No.3 doubles team set the stage by giving CC a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Jenna Forknell started the singles sweep when she won 7-6, 6-4 at No.1 singles. Mattson, Johnson and Abby Westrum all won in straight sets and Neumann and Bell went to the super-set tie-breaker before claiming their wins.

Bell and Neumann led the Cobber singles crew in Florida. Bell went 4-1 in her five singles matches play at No.6 singles while Neumann was 3-1 at No.3 singles. Bell and Neumann also lead the team in singles wins during the season. Bell is 6-6 while Neumann is also at .500 at 5-5.

Neumann and Saxen had the best trip of the Cobber doubles tandems. The duo went 4-1 in Florida and is now 5-4 on the season.

UP NEXT: Concordia was supposed to play at St. Olaf on Saturday, Mar. 9 but the match was postponed due to another winter storm. The Cobbers next scheduled match is now set for Saturday, Mar. 16 when they host St. Benedict at Courts Plus in Fargo at 2 p.m.
