Depth Keeps Success Going At Cobber Duals

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/04/12)—For the second straight week Concordia used its overall team depth to come away with a successful results at a multiple-team invitational. The Cobbers recorded a 5-1 record at the annual Cobber Duals and placed second at the meet.

In addition to the quality team result for the second straight week, Concordia also had several individual top accomplishments. The Cobbers recorded several all-time top 10 marks at the meet. Freshmen Chelsea Klemetson and Cherae Reeves had top 10 marks for the second straight week in a row. Klemetson had a jump of 5-02.25 in the high jump and won the event. Her height is three inches higher than last week's mark all-time top 10 mark and is the eighth best jump in school history. Reeves also upped her all-time top 10 result from last week. She had a final distance of 40-11.75 in the shot put and finished second in the event. Her mark is three inches farther than her distance from last week and is also the eighth best in program history.

Senior Tatijana MullerDahlberg and sophomore Rachel Tisdale were the other CC athletes that recorded top 10 marks at the meet. MullerDahlberg ran an 8.23 in the 60-meter dash and finished fifth in the event. Her time is .01 seconds faster than her quickest time from last season and is No.4 on the school's all-time top 10 list. MullerDahlberg made a splash in her season debut in the triple jump where she jumped 36-09.75 and won the event by a mere quarter of an inch. Tisdale was right behind MullerDahlberg in the 60-meter dash. She finished in seventh place with a time of 8.48 which is the 10^th fastest in program history. It is also .10 seconds faster than her best time from 2011.

Junior Liz Hanson and freshman Hillary Brink came away with the other event wins for the Cobbers. Hanson clocked a time of 5:35.36 and won the race by over 15 seconds. Hanson was a group of 10 CC runners that competed in the event. Brink earned the win in the 5000 meters which was featured all Concordia runners in the event. Brink finished in a time of 21:29.55.

The Cobber field athletes also had a solid meet for the second straight week. Tessa Comstock was third in the pole vault while Hilary Thompson was fourth in the triple jump. Hillary Birchem and Olivia Decker posted fifth-place finishes. Birchem was fifth in the shot put and Olivia Decker was fifth in the high jump.      

Concordia freshman Haylee Hastad came away with a pair of top 5 finishes in the distance events.  She was third in the mile in a time of 5:56.18 and fifth in the 3000 meters with a mark of 11:47.78. Morgan Christian earned the only other top 5 finish in the track events. She ran a 2:25.36 in the 800 meters and finished fifth.

After a pair of home meets to start the season, Concordia will finally hit the road and compete at the St. Ben's Dual Meet on Saturday, Feb. 11 beginning at 1 p.m.
