Reeves Goes Top 10 At Al Cassell Relays

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (4/29/12)— The Concordia 4x200-meter relay team set a new school record at the Drake Relays on Friday and then freshman Cherae Reeves uncorked an all-time top 10 performance on Sunday to highlight the two-part Cobber track and field weekend.

Concordia's relay teams opened the weekend by competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The Cobbers had three relay teams post times that landed on the school's all-time top 10 lists. The top eye-catcher was the quartet of Kaari Jensen, Alyssa Schmidt, Tatijana MullerDahlberg and Megan Hoffman who set a new school record in the 4x200-meter relay. The relay team finished in a time of 1:44.78 which eclipsed the old record of 1:45.82 which was set last year at the same Drake Relays.

The sprint medley relay and distance medley relay teams also finished with marks in the CC top 10. The sprint medley squad of Jensen, Schmidt, Megan Hoffman and Morgan Christian came home in a time of 4:14.98 which is the second fastest time in school history. Hoffman and Christian then teamed with Callie Christianson and Kris Sather to record the fourth fastest time in program history in the distance medley relay. The relay team finished with a time of 12:27.20 which is less than three second out of the school's three fastest times.

Reeves led the Cobber individual crew that traveled west to compete at Jamestown College on Sunday.  She placed second in the shot put with a distance of 43-02.25. That mark is the fifth farthest in school history and second best in the MIAC this season.

The Concordia jump tandem of Katrina Gerzeman and Hilary Thompson came away with the only event wins for CC. Gerzema, fresh off her outstanding performance at the Cobber Twilight Meet, won the long jump at 17-07.00 and Thompson claimed the title in the triple jump with a distance of 37-07.75. The pair has now won consecutive jump titles this outdoor season.

Paige Rygg, Elisabeth Hanson and Hillary Birchem had the lone second place finishes in multi-team contested events. Rygg ran a career-best 2:23.28 in the 800 meters while Hanson also ran a personal best time in the 1500 meters with a mark of 4:57.05. Birchem placed second in the discus with a toss of 133-09.00.

Jensen will now try to capture the title at the MIAC Heptathlon on May 3-4 at Carleton. The non multi-eventers will head across 8^th street to compete in the Ron Masanz Invite held at MSU Moorhead on May 5 starting at 9 a.m.
