Forness Saves Her Best For Last In MIAC Heptathlon
Mikayla Forness saved her best for last as she had her three top scoring events in the final four events of the MIAC heptathlon and placed third.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/01/15)—Mikayla Forness saved her best for last as she had her three top scoring events in the final four events of the MIAC heptathlon and placed third in an extremely competitive league multi-event competition.
It is the second straight year that Forness has finished third in the conference heptathlon.
Forness finished with a career-high 4,275 points which is the sixth highest total in school history and currently No.23 in all of Division III. Forness was right behind Dani Larson from St. Olaf who won the MIAC indoor pentathlon and event winner Amelia Campbell from Carleton who was the national champion in the heptathlon last year.
Forness' top event came in the seventh, and final, competition of the event. She ran a season-best 2:21.35 in the 800 meters and scored 812 points. It was the only event where she scored more than 700 points in an event. Her time was also two seconds faster than her previous season best. Forness recorded 690 points in the 200 meters by running a season-best 27.26. She then scored 643 points in the second-to-last event the javelin.
Anna Skow-Anderson was the other top 10 finisher in the heptathlon for the Cobbers. She scored a career-best 3,963 points and placed sixth in the event. It is the third straight season she has finished sixth in the conference outdoor multi-event competition.
Like Forness, Skow-Anderson also came up with her top point total in the final event of the meet. She clocked a 2:29.45 in the 800 meters and scored 700 points. Her time is a season-best mark by over seven seconds.
Skow-Anderson also had 650-plus point events in the high jump and 200-meter dash. Skow-Anderson cleared 5-01.25 and posted 689 points. Her height is also a season-best mark. Skow-Anderson also posted a season-best time in the 200 meters when she ran a 27.27. Her time knocked off over six seconds from her previous quickest time in 2015 and scored her 690 points in the heptathlon.
Cobber freshman Marissa Andersen placed 11th in her first conference heptathlon. She finished with 3,514 points. Her two best events came in the high jump and 200 meters where she scored over 600 points in each. She cleared 4-11 in the high jump to score 621 points and then crossed the line in the 200 meters in 28.38 and recorded 601 points. Her height in the high jump and time in the 200 meters are season-best marks.
