Trio Of Career Bests At MIAC Heptathlon

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/04/18)---Senior Marissa Andersen led a group of three Concordia athletes who all put up career best numbers, and finished in the Top 9, at the MIAC heptathlon which started MIAC Championship Meet week.

Andersen, Katie Jobe and Carly Fornshell amassed eight team points for the Cobbers as the team heads into next weekend's conference championship meet.

Andersen finished with 4,017 points for the seven events which is the 11th best score in the event in the history of the program. She had career-best marks in three of the events and scored at least 500 points in six of the seven events.

Jobe recorded 3,589 points and came home in seventh place while Fornshell was only 16 points behind her teammate and placed ninth with a total of 3,573 points.  

Andersen's top event came in the very first race on Friday. She clocked a 16.13 in the 100-meter hurdles and scored 698 points. Her time was a career best and pushes her into the Top 15 in the conference this season.

Andersen also came away with personal records in the shot put and event-ending 800 meters. She put up a distance of 31-06.6 in the shot put and ran a 2:35.59 in the 800 meters which netted her 624 points – the second highest event total for the heptathlon. Andersen also scored over 600 points in high jump (621) and the 200 meters (607).

Like Andersen , Jobe also had three personal best showing in the seven events. However, Jobe's best scoring events came in the three track competitions. She scored at least 580 points in the 110-meter hurdles, 200 and 800 meters.

Jobe set PRs in the 200 meters with a time of 28.08, the shot put with a distance of 29-09.5 and the 800 meters when she crossed the line in 2:39.13.

Fornshell had the most personal best marks of the three CC athletes. She PR'ed in all three track events as well as the high jump.

Fornshell started the two-day event by running a career-best 17.17 in the 100-meter hurdles. She also had career-best marks on Day 1 in the high jump (4-08.75) and the 200 meters (27.24). Fornshell closed out the heptathlon with the top scoring event in the two days when she sped to a 2:32.80 n the 800 meters which netted her 658 points and was the second fastest time among any of the athletes in the race.

WHAT'S NEXT: The three Cobber athletes will joint their teammates and compete in the MIAC Championship Meet on May 11-12 at Carleton in Northfield.
