MIAC Top 10 Marks Abound At CSB
Concordia had three athletes post MIAC Top 10 times, and had two event winners, as the team placed third at the St. Benedict Invite.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (2/09/19)---Josie Herrmann, Kara Andersen and Miriah Forness all recorded MIAC Top 10 times and freshman Gabby Renelt won the high jump to help Concordia to a third-place finish at the St. Benedict Invite held at St. John's University.
The meet in Collegeville marked the first time this season that the Cobber had competed against MIAC competition and they came away with several outstanding individual results and an idea where the team standings heading into the MIAC Championship Meet in two weeks.
Herrmann, Andersen and Forness have all stepped into the spotlight this season under the tutelage of first-year Cobber cross country coach, and former Division I All-American middle distance runner, Laura Januszewski. All three athletes were members of the Concordia cross country team in the fall and all three have made the mileage pay off in the winter.
Hermann was one of two individual event winners on the day for Concordia. She clocked a 3:05.14 in the 1000 meters and won the event by a full two seconds. Hermann's time is the third fastest in the MIAC this season and ninth fastest in Cobber history.
Herrmann is also in the Top 10 in the conference in the 800 meters. She is No.3 on the list with a season-best time of 2:22.10.
Like Herrmann, Andersen not only posted a Top 10 MIAC mark but also stepped into the Top 10 on the Cobber all-time list.
Andersen used the longer distance 3000 meters to make her mark. She paced herself to a time of 10:36.21 which was good for third place in the race and 10th fastest in the conference this year. Andersen's finishing time is also No.9 in school history.
Andersen is also ranked 10th in the conference in the 5000 meters this season.
Forness excelled at a shorter distance than Herrmann and Andersen. She crossed the line in a time of 1:42.33 in the 600 meters which placed her second – and top finisher among MIAC athletes. Her time is the ninth fastest in the league this season and is a personal best mark.
Forness also cleared a personal-best height of 9-03.25 in the pole vault which is No.13 on the school's all-time list.
Renelt was the only field event winner for CC at the meet. She won the high jump with a career-best height of 5-0.50. Her mark also pushes her into the Top 15 in the MIAC.
Fellow freshmen Allyson Kangas and Jacey Schlosser made the final flight in the shot put. Kangas finished fourth with a mark of 40-0.00 and Schlosser was sixth at 39-06.50. Both athletes are currently fifth and sixth in the MIAC in the event.
UP NEXT: Concordia will have one last meet to prepare for the MIAC Indoor Meet. The Cobbers will head north on I-29 to Grand Forks to compete in the UND Indoor Invite on Saturday, Feb. 16.
