Selle Wins MIAC Heptathlon
Peyton Selle became the first freshman to win the MIAC heptathlon since 1994 as she ran away with the championship at the conference meet.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/07/21)---Concordia freshman Peyton Selle ran away with the heptathlon championship at the MIAC Championship Meet.
Selle finished with a final total of 4,130 points to become the first Cobber to claim the unofficial title of "Conference's Best Athlete" since Mikayla Forness won the event at the conference meet in 2017. She also become the first freshman to capture the heptathlon title since 1994.
Selle is the fifth different MIAC heptathlon champ that the Cobbers have produced. She follows in the footsteps of Forness, 2-time champion Kaari Jensen (2012, 13), Leah Kay (2008) and Sarah Severson (1997).
Selle won the 2021 heptathlon by 179 points as she recorded four season-best marks and tied a fifth. She also scored over 600 points in four of the seven events. Selle finished in the Top 5 among the 11 competitors in all seven events and had Top 3 finishes in three different events.
Selle's Top 2 events over the two days of competition were the 100-meter hurdles and the 200 meters. Her top-scoring event came in the opener where she clocked a season-best time of 15.92 in the 100-meter hurdles and earned 724 points. It was her only 700-plus point total of the meet. Selle won the 200 meters with a time of 27.27 which was the final event of Day 1, also a season best mark and garnered her 690 points.
The two other 600-plus point events for Selle came in the high jump and 800 meters. She posted a height of 5-0.25 in the high jump which tied her season best and raced to a season-best time of 2:37.58 in the 800 meters – the final event on Day 2.
Selle's other season-best mark came in the long jump where she had a distance of 16-01.00 which earned her 532 points.
