All-American Speed Queen Has Company At The Top
Sophomore Emily Rengo tied the 20-year-old school record in the 60-meter dash at the UND Rune-Up. All-American Angie Pfeiffer now has company atop the school's all-time list.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (2/17/24)---There are now two indoor spring queens in the history of Concordia. All-American Angie Pfeiffer now has company in the Cobber record book.
Enter sophomore Emily Rengo. Rengo raced to a time of 7.95 in the finals of the 60-meter dash at the UND Tune-Up, which tied Pfeiffer's 20-year-old in the event.
Rengo's record-tying performance helped Concordia finish in third place in the final team standings.
Rengo's previous top time in the event came at the Bison Open on Feb. 3 when she clocked a 7.98. Rengo will have one more opportunity to break the record this season when she competes at the MIAC Championship Meet next weekend. Rengo's time puts her in sixth place in the conference heading into the meet.
The 60-meter dash proved to be a whirlwind of excitement for the Cobbers. Concordia had four athletes all post times in the Top 12 of the CC all-time list.
Besides Rengo, Lydia Fynboh crossed the line in 8.09, Andie Sandman posted an 8.13 and Piper Osborne came home in 8.20. All three times are personal bests for the athletes. Fynboh's time is No.7 on the school's all-time list, while Sandman is in a tie for No.10 and Osborne is No.12.
The lone event win at UND was registered by junior Drew Frolek. Frolek covered the 800 meters in a converted time of 2:22.77. That mark is in the Top 15 of the conference and will qualify her for the MIAC Championship Meet.
Jenna Kalevik continued her solid junior season. She qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles and then bolted to a time of 9.33. Her finals' mark is the third fastest in school history and No.4 in the MIAC this season.
Kyla Nygaard and Peyton Selle posted the other Cobber Top 10 all-time marks in Grand Forks. Nygaard ran a converted time of 59.21 in the 400 meters, which is No.5 on the all-time list.
Selle finished her MIAC multi-event prep with a distance of 36-01.5 in the triple jump. That distance is a personal best and the ninth farthest in Cobber history.
The triple jump also produced two other MIAC Top 10 marks this season. Osborne came up with a distance of 34-08.25 on her third attempt of the meet and Kalevik posted a mark of 34-01.25 on her fifth try. Both distances are personal bests. Osborne will enter the conference meet with the seventh-best mark in the MIAC and Kalevik is tied for No.10 on the list.
UP NEXT: Concordia will have a week to train and prepare for the MIAC Championship Meet which will be held at St. Olaf on Feb. 22-24.
