Undisputed MIAC Multi-Event Queen Reigns Supreme
The undisputed MIAC Multi-Event Queen continued her reign as Peyton Selle won her third straight conference pentathlon and fifth in the last six indoor and outdoor multi-event competitions.
NORTHFIELD, Minn. (2/22/24)---The undisputed MIAC Multi-Event Queen continued her reign as Peyton Selle won her third straight conference pentathlon and fifth in the last six indoor and outdoor multi-event competitions.
To make it an even better first day of the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet for Selle, was the fact that she broke the 24-year-old school record in the 60-meter hurdles in the process and finished with a career-high point total.
Selle was part of a trio of Concordia athletes that all placed in the Top 13 event, which gave the Cobbers the lead in the team standings after one event.
Selle won her third straight heptathlon by accumulating 3,291 points and winning the event by 71 points. Her final total is also No.14 in Division III this year and sets her in a solid position to earn a spot at the NCAA National Meet.
Junior teammate Jenna Kalevik was sixth in the heptathlon with a career-high 2,856 points and first-year athlete Grace Ciarrochi was 13th with 2,249 points in her first conference multi-event.
Kalevik turned in the tough-luck performance of the day and found out what every other athlete knows when it comes to multi-event competitions – it's Peyton's world and everyone else is living in it.
Kalevik opened the heptathlon by racing to a time of 9.25 in the 60-meter hurdles which was good enough to break the school record of 9.27 set in 2000 by Sara Grineski. Unfortunately for Kalevik, Selle was running in the same heat and crossed the line in 9.24 seconds.
So after one event, Selle had the lead and a new school record while Kalevik was second in the event and on the Cobbers' all-time 60-meter hurdle list.
The school record gave Selle 860 points and Kalevik 858 points, which were both of the athletes' top events of the day.
Selle scored at least 600 points in four of the five events and over 525 points in all five events. Besides the 860 points from the 60-meter hurdles, Selle scored 644 in the high jump 643 in the long jump and 605 in the 800 meters.
Kalevik's top event outside of the 60-meter hurdles was the high jump, where she was third in the event with a height of 5-01.00.
UP NEXT: Selle, Kalevik and Ciarrochi will join the rest of the Cobbers for the final two days of the MIAC Championship Meet on Feb. 23-24.
