GRAND FORKS, N.D. (2/01/25)---Concordia has come for records in 2025. It began in last week's opener at the Cobber Open and continued in Grand Forks at the UND Open on Saturday.
Jenna Kalevik started off this week's record-book barrage for the Cobbers by breaking her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles. She broke the record in the prelims with a time of 9.19 and eventually took fifth in the finals. Kalevik, who took second at last year's conference championship meet in the event, jumps into the top of the MIAC ranks by over .10 of a second
Junior
Emily Rengo followed in Kalevik's footsteps by breaking her school record in the 60-meter dash. Rengo, who tied the school record last week, lowered her time to 7.91 which was good for 12th overall in the meet of Division I and II athletes and ranks second in the MIAC this year.
Andie Sandman and
Piper Osborne also finished in the top 20 of the 60-meter dash with times of 8.07 and 8.12. All three of those runners are in the Top 5 in the conference rankings.
Rengo also came back in the 200 to run a time of 25.85 (26.25c) placing her 14th in the event. That time ranks third on the all-time list for the Cobbers and ranks fifth in the MIAC this year.
The next record to fall was in the 600 meters where
Kyla Nygaard absolutely obliterated the school record with a time of 1:34.33 (1:35.49c) placing second in the event. The previous school record was set back in 2021 with a time of 1:37.20. Her record-breaking time propels her to the top spot in the MIAC by over 2.0 seconds.
Rengo and Nygaard both come back to help the 4x400 relay post the only event win of the day.
Emma Warner and
Meg Shercliffe joined the record-breaking duo in running a time of 4:03.98 (4:07.23) which ranks second in the MIAC this year.
A pair of first-year distance runners were the next Cobbers to record Top 5 finishes.
Ashley Nelson ran her first career 3000-meter race and clocked a time of 10:54.89 (11:00.53c) placing her third overall. That time puts Nelson inside the top 15 in the MIAC this year.
Kelyn Henry-Perlich finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:27.92 (2:29.63c) That time ranks her 17th in the MIAC this year.
Henry-Perlich also had a stand-out performance alongside fellow first-year
Brooklyn Hart in the mile. The duo posted Top 13 finishes at the meet and Top 15 marks in the MIAC. Henry-Perlich ran a time of 5:19.56 (5:22.73c) placing her 11th overall and 10th in the MIAC this year. Hart, competing in her first-ever collegiate meet, placed 13th overall with a time of 5:23.48 (5:26.69) That time also places her 15th in the MIAC this year. This is the first time the Cobbers have had two runners in the top 20 in the MIAC since 2022.
Peyton Selle and
Brynley Coleman set the tone for field events, both placing fifth in their events. Selle jumped 4-11.00 in the high jump and Coleman cleared 9-04.25 in the pole vault. Both are ranked in the Top 10 in the MIAC for their events.
Osborne was next up in the triple jump. She jumped 34-11.25 for a sixth-place finish. Osborne is the top-ranked triple jumper in the MIAC this year.
A pair of throwers got inside the Top 10 in the MIAC this year. Senior
Brooke Kangas let loose a throw of 45-08.5 in the weight throw, taking 11th place. That throw ranks her ninth in the MIAC this year. First-year field athlete
Chloe Mueffelman released a throw of 37-01.25 in the shot put, placing her tenth overall.
Rounding out the field events was
Laura Fuller who competed in the rare indoor discus. Fuller uncorked a throw of 115-04 and finished ninth. That throw ranks her fourth on the Cobber all-time list for indoor discus.
