Indoor Or Outdoor; Cobber Relay Teams Break Records
Indoor. Outdoor. It doesn’t matter where the race takes place for the Cobber relay teams – they’re going to break a school record. The Concordia 4x100-meter relay team of Emily Rengo, Andie Sandman, Piper Osborne and Kyla Nygaard sprinted into the record book by posting a time of 48.57, which broke the old school record of 48.78 set in 2003.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (3/28/25)---Indoor. Outdoor. It doesn't matter where the race takes place for the Cobber relay teams – they're going to break a school record.
The Concordia 4x100-meter relay team of Emily Rengo, Andie Sandman, Piper Osborne and Kyla Nygaard sprinted into the record book by posting a time of 48.57, which broke the old school record of 48.78 set in 2003. Their finishing time is also No.19 in all of Division III this year.
The 4x1 relay quartet led the Cobbers at the St. Benedict Invite. Concordia recorded five first-place finishes at the outdoor season opener. CC also posted nine Top 5 finishes at the meet.
The four members of the school-record relay were also responsible for four of the event wins. Besides the victory in the 4x1, Sandman won the 100-meter dash, Rengo claimed the tile in the 200 meters and Nygaard cruised to a victory in the 800 meters. The final win came courtesy of Jenna Kalevik in the 100-meter hurdles.
Sandman opened her outdoor season by posting a mark of 12.45 in the 100 meters. That is the top time in the MIAC this year and the fourth fastest in Cobber history.
Rengo crossed the line in 25.88 in the 200, which also puts her at the top of the conference list for 2025.
Nygaard, who was running in her first collegiate 800-meter race, started slowly on the first lap but then built up speed and came home with a time of 2:19.78. That mark is the third fastest in the MIAC this year.
Kalevik continued her hurdle success from the indoor season, where she claimed the MIAC championship in the 60-meter hurdles by clocking a 15.39 in the 100-meter hurdles. Her finishing time is the second best in the MIAC and No.8 on the school's all-time list.
Genevieve Gruba had the best finish of any Cobber field athlete. The 2-sport athlete who was competing in the first meet of her season came through with a distance of 120-02 in the javelin and placed second. Her mark is No.1 in the MIAC and No.24 in the country.
The feel-good story of the meet belonged to senior Peyton Selle, who returned to competition after fighting through an injury during the indoor season. Selle finished fourth in the high jump, sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and 14th in the javelin.
First-year athlete Kaia Gack came through with a fifth-place finish in the high jump. Like Guba, who also plays for the Cobber women's basketball team, Gack went over the bar at 4-11.00 in her very first collegiate meet. She was also eighth in the javelin (101-04).
Concordia will head to Bismarck, N.D. to compete in the University of Mary Al Bortke Open on Saturday, Apr. 5 at 11 a.m. There may be some other athletes headed to Hamline or the Univ. of South Dakota on the same day, but that will most likely be announced late on Saturday afternoon via an accidental text.
