Midweek Event Wins & Top 5 Program & Top 10 MIAC Marks
Concordia competed in a rare midweek meet but it was business as usual as they came away with event wins and Top 5 program and Top 10 MIAC marks at the St. Benedict Spring Invite.
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (4/17/25)---It doesn't matter if it's indoor outdoor, weekend or midweek, Concordia will record event wins and Top 5 program and Top 10 MIAC marks.
Such was the case in the rare midweek St. Benedict Spring Invite on Thursday.
When Concordia packed up the bus and headed northwest, they had successfully recorded six event wins and 13 Top 3 finishes in Collegeville.
The Cobbers came away with five event wins in track events and one more in the field portion of the meet.
First-year athlete Kaia Gack posted the event win for the field crew. She cleared the bar at 5-01.00 in the high jump to earn the first event win of her college career.
In the least surprising news of the day, a Concordia relay team crossed the line in first place. On Thursday, it was the 4x400 group of Meg Shercliffe, Emma Warner, Taylor Christenson and Drew Frolek, who clocked a 4:05.68 and won the event by over 5 seconds.
Frolek was one of the four individuals who won track events. She recorded her victory in the 800 meters when she ran a season-best time of 2:19.25.
First-year distance phenom Ashley Nelson ran away from the pack and clocked a 39:28.32 in the 10K and beat the runner-up by 42 seconds.
Kyla Nygaard and Jenna Kalevik were the other two winners on the day for the Cobbers. Nygaard crossed the line in a time of 56.83 in the 400 meters. That mark is a personal best and she becomes only the third Cobber in program history to post a time under 57 seconds in the 400.
Kalevik, the queen of the hurdles, jumped into the Top 25 of DII when she ran a 14.81 in the 100-meter hurdles. That time is just off her season-best mark of 14.72, which currently leads the MIAC.
Shercliffe, Emily Rengo, Londyn Ames and Ellie Welch earned runner-up finishes. Shercliffe was second in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:07.49. That mark is a PR and No.6 in the conference this season.
Rengo clocked a 58.03 in her first 400 meters of the year. That time is No.5 in the MIAC.
Ames was second in the 1500 meters with a personal best time of 4:59.39. Her finishing time moves her into the No.3 spot in the MIAC this season.
Welch earned her second-place finish in the discus with a distance of 128-04. That is the top mark of the season for the first-year athlete and gets her into the Top 5 of the conference.
Concordia will fan out to compete at UW-La Crosse, Univ. of Jamestown and Dickinson State.
