MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/03/25)---Concordia christened the new track at Jake Christiansen Stadium with a perfect day, six event wins and a cornfield full of Top 3 finishes at the Cobber Open.
Hosting their first full outdoor meet since 2019, Concordia prepared for next week's MIAC Championship Meet by dining on a full 19-event schedule and dashing to 24 Top 3 finishes.
The Cobbers claimed the top position in all three relay events and were led by the usual suspects of Andie Sandman, Emily Rengo, Meg Shercliffe, Drew Frolek and Piper Osborne, who all won individual events. First-year jumper Ellie Machayya joined the win crew as she recorded her first collegiate event win in the long jump.
Sandman won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.61, but her top time of the day came in the prelims, where she ran a 12.39.
Rengo moved up in distance to win the 400 meters. She clocked a PR time of 57.24 and beat teammate Kyla Nygaard by a mere .02 of a second. Rengo's time is No.7 in the MIAC this season.
Shercliffe gave the Cobbers the win in the 400-meter hurdles. She ran a 1:06.90, which was a personal best and the sixth fastest in the conference.
Frolek finished off the last home meet of her college career by winning the 1500 meters. She crossed the line in a time of 4:50.63. She was able to hold off teammate Kelyn Henry-Perlich down the stretch, with Henry-Perlich closing with a runner-up time of 4:51.36.
Osborne nearly pulled off a double win on Saturday. She posted a winning distance of 35-06.00 in the triple jump and was second in the 200 meters by .97 of a second.
Gruba continued her winning ways in the javelin. The 2-sport Cobber athlete tied her season-best mark with a distance of 129-00. That distance leads the MIAC this year by three feet.
Machaya was able to record a season-best distance of 16-03.00 on her first attempt of the finals in the long jump. That mark jumps her into the Top 20 of the MIAC. Machaya backed up her win in the long jump with a second-place finish in the triple jump.
A pair of Cobbers doubled up on Top 3 finishes at the meet. Kiernan Darling was third in both the 100-meter hurdles and long jump and Ella Starzl was second in the long jump and third in the triple jump.
Concordia will look to continue their season-long success when they compete at the MIAC Championship Meet on May 9-10 at Macalester.
