Selle Opens NCAA Championship Meet Heptathlon
Senior Peyton Selle began her fourth NCAA Championship Meet experience by competing in the four events of the heptathlon at nationals in Geneva, Ohio.
GENEVA, Ohio (5/22/25)---It was raining to start the day for senior Peyton Selle as she opened her fourth national meet experience, and the day finished with a gloomy, heartbreaking cloud after she was disqualified in the fourth event of the NCAA Championship Meet heptathlon.
Selle, the 2-time MIAC heptathlon champion, had posted solid marks in her first three events of Day 1 at nationals, but then ran into trouble in the 200 meters when she was deemed to step outside her lane going around the curve.
Selle will still be able to compete in the final three events of the multi-event on Friday, but the 0-point total for the 200 meters took her out of the running for All-American honors.
Selle opened the meet by splashing her way to a time of 15.56 in the 100-meter hurdles. That time was only .31 of a second off her season best and earned her 769 points – her top point total of the four events on Day 1.
Selle then cleared 5-0.50 in the high jump to add 666 points to her total. She entered the national meet with a season-best height of 5-02.50.
The third event of the heptathlon was the shot put, and Selle came through with a distance of 32-05.50 on her third and final attempt and scored 522 points. Her distance at nationals was farther than her marks at both the MIAC Championship Meet and the CSB NCAA Qualifier.
Selle entered the 200 meters with 1,957 points, which was only 11 points off her pace from her Top 3 finish in the MIAC heptathlon.
Unfortunately, Selle stepped out of her lane in the 200 meters, which cost her over 700 points in the total point standings since she scored 730 points in the 200 meters at the MIAC meet and 744 points at the CSB meet.
Selle ended up finishing Day 1 with 1,957 points.
Selle will finish her Cobber career on Day 2 of the NCAA heptathlon when she competes in the long jump, javelin and 800 meters beginning at 10 a.m.
