Carney Leads By Example In Career Finale
Senior Brianna Carney led the Cobbers by example in the final match of her career as she led the team in kills, hitting percentage and blocks in the season finale at St. Benedict.
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (11/02/19)---Senior Brianna Carney led the Cobbers by example in the final match of her career as she led the team in kills, hitting percentage and blocks in the season finale at St. Benedict.
Carney's all-around play wasn't enough as Concordia fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) to the playoff bound Bennies.
The Cobbers finish off the 2019 season with a 7-19 overall record. CC ends the year with a 4-7 mark in conference play. St. Benedict is now 22-4 in all matches and 8-3 in the MIAC. They will be the No.3 seed in the upcoming MIAC playoffs.
Concordia was never able to get any momentum in the match as they fell behind in the early stages of each set.
The Cobbers hit a match-high .147 in the first set but then saw that stat drop in the second set to .059 and then fall to .030 in the final bout. CC finished with an attack percentage of .076 for the match. The Bennies hit at least .230 in all three sets and ended the day with a .278 hitting mark.
Carney had a team-high eight kills and hit .312 in her 16 total attack chances. She also added three blocks. Carney finishes her career with 825 kills, 293 blocks and hit .226.
Carney's younger sister Brook Carney was close behind with seven kills. She tied for the team lead in total attack chances with 28.
Gabby DeBoer also had 28 chances and put down six winners. DeBoer added four digs.
Jill Klaphake tied for the team high with 13 assists and had seven digs. Fellow setter Lexi Turn also had 13 helpers and came away with a team-high 12 gigs. It was her 10th double-double of the season.
