Cobbers Drop Road Match At Macalester
Concordia finished off their road conference weekend by dropping a 4-set decision at Macalester (23-25, 25-9, 18-25, 24-26).
ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/09/21)---Concordia finished off their road conference weekend by dropping a 4-set decision at Macalester (23-25, 25-9, 18-25, 24-26). The Cobbers won the second set to even the match at 1-1 but then the Scots claimed a pivotal 25-18 win in the third and then closed out CC in the fourth with a 26-24 win.
Concordia (6-12, 0-5 MIAC) finished with a better attacking percentage than Macalester, but the Scots had 16 more attack attempts and six more digs to earn the victory. The Cobbers had an attack mark of .225 and had 142 attempts for the match, while the Scots hit .158 and put up 158 attack attempts.
The Cobbers held a 22-19 lead in the opening set, but then Macalester (11-7, 2-3 MIAC) won six of the final seven points to win 25-23.
The second set was all CC as they won 11 straight points to claim a 25-9 win. CC led 14-9 and then went on the set-clinching roll.
Concordia carried the momentum over to the third set and grabbed an early 7-3 lead. The Scots then won 13 of the next 16 points to seize control at 16-10.
The fourth set went back-and-forth with neither team holding more than a 3-point lead. The Cobbers won three straight points on a pair of Scot attack errors and Brook Carney kill to take a 24-21 lead. Unfortunately, CC was never able to close out the set, gave up five straight points and lost 26-24.
Carney and Hannah Keil led the Cobber offense with 11 kills each. Anna Brakke and Kendra Wiggs added eight winners each. Brakke also came up with 13 gigs, while Wiggs had seven.
Chloe Markovic had a team-high 14 digs, and Kenzie Urbanec and Mariah Iwen combined for 37 assists.
