MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/13/25) — Concordia came out swinging and pushed UW–Stout to the wire in two nail-biting sets, but the Blue Devils used late runs to escape with a 3–1 win (27–25, 18–25, 25–17, 25–21) on Saturday afternoon.
The Cobbers showed grit from the start, rallying from an early deficit in the first set to grab an 18–17 lead behind kills from Cayla Sailer and Annie Horan. The maroon and gold even earned set point at 24–23 after back-to-back strikes from Horan, but Stout stole momentum and closed with three straight points to take it, 27–25.
Concordia didn't blink. With Betsy Schiltz orchestrating the offense, The Cobbers raced out to a 7–2 lead in the second and controlled the frame from start to finish. Addy Klemin and Mallory Leitner came alive at the net, while Lauren Bangs capped the set with a block that secured a 25–18 win and tied the match at 1–1.
The third set tilted back to Stout as the Blue Devils capitalized on six early Cobber miscues to build a 10–6 edge. Despite big swings from Sailer and Horan, Concordia couldn't slow the surge and dropped the frame 25–17.
The Cobbers kept fighting in the fourth. After trailing 12–6, CC clawed back with a service ace from Hanna Mooney and consecutive kills from Sailer to pull within 19–16. Kelsi Martini added late energy with a clutch ace to fend off match point, but Stout sealed it 25–21 with a kill down the line.
Sailer led all Cobbers with 16 kills, while Horan chipped in 12. Schiltz posted a career-best 39 assists to pace the offense, and Martini anchored the back row with 12 digs.
Concordia moves to 1–5 on the season and returns to action later today with a 5 p.m. matchup against North Central.
